What's going on with the new feedback?

As many of you are probably aware, the new rules on feedback mean that not only is feedback calculated on feedback received in the past 12 months, but neutral feedback now counts as -1. So, it's basically the same as a negative. These two combined mean that there are some dodgey looking sellers out there - but you've probably been fooled!

You may want to look closer...

Feedback has dropped on most auctions for the majority of sellers now. And some is looking VERY bad. But, not as bad as you may thing. Previously when I saw someone with 96% feedback, I'd feel pretty put off and probably wouldn't buy from them. However, I looked closer at this. Many sellers showing low feedbacks, haven't offered that bad service at all. Neutral feedbacks ususally come around when stock is out, wrong models are sent, or refunds are sent. Generally this does NOT denote a bad experience for the seller. But eBay seems to think people who leave neutral feedback are distraught with their item.

One seller I saw today had received few feedbacks in the past 12 months, had 1 neutral which was something along the lines of "Bought the product, but didn't fit me so sent it back for a refund". Seller sold the item as described, but an awkward buyer was on the receiving end. Because of this neutral feedback, the seller had a low feedback score of about 92%, or something close. Now, that would totally put me off buying. But in reality, this seller has provided a great service, and looking through her other feedback, really was an honest, trustworthy seller.

So when you see a low feedback score don't be disgruntled. It's probably just an awkward seller, or even just a measly neutral feedback score.

Use your common sense

Look at the other feedbacks to make your own judgements, and see if the neutral feedback left really is anything that would put you off. Most of the time, it's not.

And check out the Detailed Seller Ratings as well, if they are about 4.7, generally you are on for a winner.

So, the final line is, don't be put off at first glance! New eBay feedback means that people are appearing much lower than they really deserve.

Happy buying folks!
