DE-MYSTIFYING THE INSTALLATION OF BOTTOM DRAINS AND SEAMING POND LINERS.
EPDM koi and fish pond liners shouldn't have any folds in them as it accumulates lots of gas pockets which do cause many bacterial and fungal infections later. I also apply the same procedure to our bottom drain and skimmer installations.
UNDER LINER AND EPDM LINER INSTRUCTIONS Alway work in 4' length sections.
-
Lay your underliner in place and do not over lap it.
-
Tape each seam together.
-
Now lay your EPDM fish safe liner down.
-
Let it relax for a couple of hours.
-
Now take the folded corners and make them straight.
-
If the bottom bunches up it's okay as you can you can patch the bottom too.
-
You need to cut the top of the liner straight down to the end of the fold.
-
Now fold back the sides that you just cut.
-
Clean both sides with lacquer thinner.
-
Take a magic marker and draw a line down the overlap.
-
Wash the back side of the top liner and face of the bottom liner with lacquer thinner.
GLUE:
-
Your liner should be able to lap over at lease 4-6".
-
Start to glue the back of the top and the face of the bottom layer. (Just like installing formica).
-
The glue goes to the line that you drew with the magic marker.
-
Both sides must be tacky before you bond them together.
-
Take your top piece of liner and hold it in the air.
-
Bring it to the line on the bottom of the liner.
-
Make sure the top liner is over to the line before you start putting pressure against the bottom of the seam.
-
Hand rub it all the way up.
-
Wipe the top with lacquer thinner.
SEAMING TAPE: REMEMBER YOU MUST CUT EACH CORNER SO IT IS ROUND OR THE PATCH COULD LIFT AND LEAK!
- Only work in 4' length sections.
- Cut the seaming tape to overlap the bottom seam by 3" and go all the way to the top and beyond to the outside edge of the stone shelve.CAU
- Lay the tape on the rubber where it is going to go.
- Draw a line with a magic marker around the tape.
- Now you will know where to glue it.
- The tape needs to be glued as well as the liner.
- Remove the plastic coating off the tape.
- Lay it on a clean surface.
- Put the glue on the tape and the liner between the 2 lines.
- When tacky start the tape at the bottom, dead center.
- Line up your top.
- Start at the bottom and work your way up.
- Don't worry if you get an air bubble in it as you can cut it out when you are done and repatch the area.
CAULKING:
- Cut open the top of the calk in a 45 degree angle.
- Now place a thin neat bead of caulk right over the seams all the way around.
- The tape needs to be glued as well as the liner.
DO NOT TOUCH IT. IT WILL LAY DOWN FLAY ON ITS OWN AND WILL BOND THE TAPE TO THE RUBBER.
WAIT 24 HOURS BEFORE FILLING IT UP WITH WATER.
DOING IT SLOWLY SO YOU CAN SEE IF YOU HAVE A LEAK.
