Well, let's see. You have Tickle Me Elmo, Hockey Elmo, Chicken Dance Elmo, Rock N Roll Elmo, Shout Elmo, YMCA Elmo, I know I have missed a huge volume of other Elmos. You just can't name them all. And guess what, a new Elmo is scheduled to make it's debut September 2006. Yes just in time for Christmas; Tickle Me Elmo Extreme.
I am more of a history tibits buff. I don't get into the technical aspects of toys. They just have to be fun. And I have found Elmo to be just that.
Well, we all know that Elmo is one of the furry creatures from the Muppets, Sesame Street gang. He has been manufactured by Fisher Price, Tyco and I seen one by Gund. One thing I can say, it makes for a huge collectors display.
So who is Elmo
Elmo is a small red furry creature or monster with an orange nose. He is reported to be 3 1/2 to 4 years old, always speaking in the third person. Elmo has been performed over the years by Caroll Spinney 1970's, Brian Muehl 1979-1981, Richard Hunt 1981 to 1984. Elmo is currently performed by Kevin Clash and his backup is John Tertaglia. It is said that Elmo (before he was Elmo) was just a piece of red furry puppet that need a character to bring him to life and that many workers played with him, but one day he came alive and began to grow like a broadleaf weeds in everyone's home.
Around 1996 Tickle Me Elmo was created by Tyco. In 2001 the Surprise edition debuted. Several of the toys, it is reported, stopped laughing only to announce that the owner had won a prize, the grand prize was $200,000.
YMCA Elmo by Fisher Price was released in 2004. It is amazing having watched Elmo perform the YMCA song and dance by the Village People, how he can captivate an audience. He startled me when he moves to stand on one foot still singing and rocking and does not tip over. I just knew he'd fall but he kept his form. Truely due an Olympic gold.
There are so many Elmos available. In 2006 as mentioned before Tickle Me Elmo Extreme is to make its debut and the cost will be around $40.00
