EBAY SCAM: SHILL BIDDING

Sellers know that they can attract interest in their items by increasing the number of bids on their items; if a buying saw two similar items on ebay, one with 20 bids and another with 0 bids, the buyer will be more interested in the one with 20 bids more often then not.  Some sellers actually start numerous accounts and BID ON THEIR OWN auctions!  (This is called SHILL BIDDING).  They can have many accounts outbid each other to increase the number of bids on the item and increase the auction's price.  This will artificially increase the interest of an auction that is often no different or even worse then similar items available!

Often sellers will do this when thier item for sale is a fake, an import, or just a piece of junk!  The rationalism is that if many others feel interested and safe bidding on their items, you should too!  (Of coarse those "others" who are bidding are actually just th seller's other usernames!).  Then they just need one person to fall for it and outbid all of the seller's other usernames and it's payday for the seller!  The best way to look out for this is to simply look at the feedback of the users that are making those bids - since those additional account rarely if ever win auctions, their feedback will be low or 0 - and often are new accounts created in the last 30 days!
