EBAY SCAM: BID RETRACTION
Sometimes a seller will bid on his own items using multiple different usernames (this is called SHILL BIDDING - See my other FREE GUIDES to learn about this scam). Sometimes bidding on your own item can go wrong if the seller gets too greedy and bids up his/her own item too high that he outbids all other ebayers in an attempt to increase the value of an auction. When this occurs, the seller will retract the most recent bid - therefore the second highest bidder will again become the winning bidder.
There is one additional variation of this scam....the seller purposely outbids the high bidder (with some crazy bid - such as $1000) - then he will cancel that bid and for the reason he will say "bidder bid $1000 instead of $100" - and here is where they get you:
By outbidding you they can figure out your EXACT BID! So if the auction was at only $20, but you had already bid $50, then after retracting the bid, the seller will rebid with a different account - he will bid $49 which means your current bid will be raised to $50 - the max you were willing to pay!
The best way to look out for this is to simply look at the feedback of the users that are making those bids - since those additional account rarely if ever win auctions, their feedback will be low or 0 - and often are new accounts created in the last 30 days!
