eBay/Paypal eMail Scam

Introduction

I would like to pass along some very important, simple information on how to immediately identify whether the, almost daily email scams from 'eBay' and 'Paypal' can be identified as SCAMS. I will be short and to the point.

Iron-Clad Ways to Know Within Seconds If the Email Is Real

  • Does the eMail address you by either your screen name or formal name (Joe Smith)? If not, it is a scam email. Delete it, and move on. Again, if the email address you as "Dear Valued Member" or something generic along those lines - a Scam!
If there is Still Some Question...

***(The term 'mouse over' means to move your mouse cusor over something like a link or button)
  • (This is the test I use on my eBay/Paypal emails as to whether or not it is real) Open the email, and take your mouse, and 'mouse over' either the link provided in the email (Paypal), or the reply button (eBay)...if it is a scam email where a 'eBay user' is either threatening you, or asking an urgent question. If you 'mouse over' the link or reply button - in the bottom 'bar' in the email window (in Microsoft Outlook) lower left hand corner, you will see the address link where you will be directed...if that link does not begin with either:
www.paypal.com/
or http://contact.ebay.com/

They are scam emails looking to hyjack your account.

Here are a couple links recently taken from scam emails I have received...they are claiming to originate from Paypal saying my account is limited, but when I 'mouse over' the link, look where at the Internet address begins...

http://rds.yahoo.com...

This next one comes from 'eBay' from a 'user' asking about when I am going to send some item they bought from me...again, when I mouse over the reply button, the internet address link that appears in the window below starts...

www.formbuddy.com...

SCAM

If you go so far as to click on the link or reply button in these emails, just pay attention to the address in the address bar...if the address does not being Paypal or eBay, then it is a scam. DO NOT LOGIN!

If you found this guide the least bit helpful, please click the 'yes' button and increase the chance that others will get to see this information as well.

Safe Bidding Everyone.
