As a result of many inquiries from customers, I have written this guide to share my expertise in how to care for and maintain your Marino Orlandi and other leather designer bags and assessories that are made of "treated" leather. Marino Orlandi is the designer bags I carry and sell on ebay most often but also carry and sell Paolo Masi, Carla Mancini and other high end designers. My leather bags still look new, like the day I bought them - this is because I am very careful when I carry them, I never set them on the floor, never store them in dust bags and to maintain the original shape store them stuffed and sitting upright in my closet, and on an as needed basis maintain them with Leather CPR. Dust bags while they certainly keep off dust, can create moisture which will usually change the color of the hardware, age the leather, remove the new leather smell, and change the color. Dust bags age your bags and I highly recommend not using them. What's a little bit of dust? It will just dry wipe right off.
Leather CPR, a one-step process for cleaning and conditioning treated leathers, is what I use and recommend for keeping leather products looking like new - it is all I use and have used since it came on the market and nothing can surpass its' performance - it is so easy to use - it covers scuffs and scratches, blends in mars, keeps the leather from drying out, retains the original new leather smell, doesn't change the color (but always test in an inconspicuous place first-I have used this on literally hundreds of bags and it has never changed or removed the color once), keeps stitching tight and in tact, and with proper use and storage and maintenace of your leather goods, will keep them looking like new. It has no offensive odors, is easy to use, is gentle enough to use that I do not wear any gloves when using the product (but gloves probably should be worn) and really goes a long ways. The product in my opinion is the best on the market, and outbeats all others - far superior to Coach's leather cleaner and conditioner which I have also used, and anything else on the market I have tried - and I have tried my fair share over the years. I will never vary from Leather CPR, I am that sold on this product. I have yet to find a leather bag or billfold I cannot use it on - it cannot though be used on suede or suede leathers-it is for treated leathers only. Runs about $7.99 plus tax for a jar/tube (they are apparently doing away with the jars and going to a plastic bottle in the same size ounces) and price has dropped from $9.99 to $7.99! I buy mine at Bed Bath & Beyond and also sometimes at Walgreens. Some Bed Bath & Beyond stores issue a 20% off coupon through the mail or as an insert in the paper. The Leather CPR website provides information on where to purchase. I also see it for sale on Ebay.
You will find a soft dry white or offwhite (use colorless as one with color can somtimes run-aren't colorfast) wash cloth works best with the Leather CPR. Use sparingly as not much is needed at a time and as to not get the leather "wet". I usually go over my bags at the most once every year or even less as my bags don't get dirty - I just need to use it cover up the mars, etc. Leather CPR restores leather which is why is is named Leather CPR. It restores leather - the shine and texture and the color. I carry mostly Marino Orlandi and that is all the more often those bags need it - other designer bags may require more frequent maintenance. The way I clean mine is to go over only the areas that needs in the following order as needed: front, back, each side, exterior base and corners, and then the strap. Go over those areas in soft small circular motions applying a little pressure until it blends in- after going over the areas you can go over again or just leave in. Buffing it in will firm up the leather. For the strap I put a little Leather CPR on the cotton cloth fold it over the strap so the cloth with the product is rubbing against both sides of the strap as I gently apply pressure and go from one end to the other. The product has so far not phased any of the hardware on any of my bags, but I am careful to avoid the hardware. I have used Leather CPR on Marino Orlandi, Coach, Dooney & Bourke, Paolo Masi, Carla Mancini, and Tangarora, just to name a few designers-all bags with treated leather. And it has worked beautifully on all bags. Bags that are made of leather and fabric such as Louis Viton which are made of leather and cotton (their store gave me that information when I asked) be careful not to get the product on the fabric. I only carry all leather bags because the fabric bags just do not last and hold up and are easily soiled and age fast. If the strap is detachable it works best to remove the strap and any strap keepers and clean the strap (and strap keepers) separately - goes faster.
I have found to keep my bag clean and organized and easy to switch out, to carry a make up bag which keeps makeup together and organized and if something should come open it won't get all over the bag, and to carry only an ink pen that will not come undone. I have not once gotten makeup or an ink mark on my bag. And I carry a lot of leather bags and switch them out often. Keeping an organized purse makes it a breeze to switch out bags and to prevent your bag from becoming cluttered. It has saved me a lot of time in having to dig and search for things, and maintained my investment.
