"EARTH vs. the FLYING SAUCERS"

(Newly-Remastered DVD, in B&W and Color)

* A Buyer's Guide *

Like many 'sci-fi' fans, I have seen this movie countless times... on film, VHS tape, laserdisc and DVD... Then WHY did I purchase another DVD of the movie?...

When I learned that  SONY PICTURES Home Entertainment  was releasing a 'Colorized' version of this action-packed, 1956  COLUMBIA PICTURES  classic  (in 1.85:1 Anamorphic Widescreen)... I was somewhat excited, to be sure! -- 'Earth Versus' was always a fascinating 'master-work' by stop-motion SPFX 'wizard', Ray Harryhausen... and now it is available in 'Color' as well!!...

So, how TRUE is the color-rendition of this great Harryhausen classic?:  The color was WAY beyond what I had expected;  The first half of the DVD in particular, almost looks like it was 'mastered' from a 35mm  TECHNICOLOR (r)  print or internegatives (which do not exist... since the cinematography was black-and-white)...  And the 'Colorization' is superb throughout the entire DVD;  It adds so much more to the already 'amazing' effects!!...

Personally, I think that the video 'transfer' is very good indeed... and the Special Features on the 2nd disc alone, are worth the price of the 'show':

* Remembering Earth vs. The Flying Saucers * Hollywood Blacklist and Bernard Gordon * Tim Burton Sits Down with Ray Harryhausen * Interview with Joan Taylor * A Present Day Look at Stop-Motion * David Schecter on Music's Unsung Hero * Digital Sneak Peek of Flying Saucers vs. The Earth comics book * Original Screenplay Credits * Video Photo Galleries * Original Ad Artwork * AND  The Colorization Process...

And of course, if you DO want to view the DVD in 'glorious', old B&W... you can do so with the push of a button.-- In addition, this DVD offers an audio commentary with Ray Harryhausen, Visual Effects Artists Jeffrey Okun and Ken Ralston, & Arnold Kunert...

The story runs its original 83 minutes in length... is remastered in High Definition... is 'closed-captioned', for the hearing-impaired  (I like to use that feature myself, late at night)...

LANGUAGES:  ENGLISH 5.1 (Dolby Digital), ENGLISH, PORTUGUESE. SPANISH, FRENCH .

SUBTITLES:  ENGLISH, FRENCH, PORTUGUESE, SPANISH.

This AMAZING 'cinemasterpiece' DVD is available throughout eBay listings at VERY reasonable prices.-- 'Sorry', to any 'hard-to-please' buyers out there... I really TRIED to find something about this DVD, that I didn't like... but I simply couldn't!!

Enjoy!
