Mr Esmond Gerrard Barnhill (1894-1987) was an interesting man who published greeting cards, post cards, and photographs of Florida during the period 1914 through the early 30's. Probably his most famous photograph is the Bok Tower located in Lake Wales . He also is well known for his photos (some of which are quite large ) which were developed utilizing uranium dies in a process known as "goldtoning". This produced quite a wild effect , as anyone who has an opportunity to view one would agree. Some of his earliest and most strikingly beautiful greeting cards ( which were also utilized as advertizing placards for local Florida businesses) ,were printed in Germany, noted for having the best presses . After Mr Barnhills passing in 1987 at the ripe old age of 93, a large quantity (several thousand ) of his early prints came to light and were sold at auction to a lucky couple in Sorrento, Fl who recognized the outstanding quality and beauty of Mr Barnhills work . Since that time many have been sold at prices ranging from 50 cents to 20 dollars in a sort of wild free for all of speculation and appreciation. These small prints which measure approx 7 x 4 1/2 inches are in fact mostly greeting cards without the greeting, altho a smaller quantity with advertizing or holliday messages turn up as well. All of his cards depict various Florida landscapes with vivid colors and fabulous detail .
