I agree with anyone.....Most transactions are honest, fair and in good faith. There are some predators lying in wait.Waiting for the opportune chance to really put it too someone and pull off the perfect scam.Let me share one such episode I went thru when purchasing an item.Maybe it will help you to avoid the predators out there !
Bought and engine for a project I was completing.Paid good price,it wasnt a bargain and waited for its arrival. Two weeks pass and I get this cardboard box with holes and objects sticking out of it.Viewed this as not being a GOOD thing...
Open it up and was amazed....The engine was wrapped in newspaper (engine for a Honda Odyssey buggy),thats ALL the packaging and protection. Thus why the motor mounts had gouged holes thru single layer cardboard box.
Take it out of the box and see all the damage, broken cylinder head fins, ceramic plug cap buted off, etc. The CDI ignition unit was not there, either seller never put it in box OR it fell out of box during shipping.
Immediately message seller with these issues.....NO reply...NONE....File Paypal claim after the customary waiting period and jump thru all the hoops required for claim.
MORE WAITING......Paypal eventually grants claim and I am to receive refund.NOW in a perfect world, this would be a no brainer..........
Seller was a neophyte....less than 10 ntransactions.Thats the FIRST clue to puzzle. You see a seller with damn few transactions,BE AFRAID.
Person lists an item for a substantial amount and then waits for auction to end.Buyer pays with THE most popular method...PAYPAL
Seller gets the money IMMEDIATELY and IMMEDIATELY takes it OUT of Paypal. NOW the stage is set.
Buyer gets the item, damaged, broken or poor quality.JUMPS THRU ALL THE HOOPS to file claim, etc.
MAYBE the claim is settled in buyers favor.Paypal grants buyer a refund from seller.WOW..You think you are going to get a fair settlement....
Remember ? Seller pulled out all the money from their Paypal account or closed it and you are now sitting on an EGG that is NEVER GONNA HATCH.
Neither YOU or Paypal have anyway to reclaim loss....What a great SCAM !
This is one that has stung me several times and belive me,you will not forget about it when it happens.
Prevention of such loss:
1.Buy from sellers who have transactions in at least the HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS.
This scam is growing and the con artists are getting off with a free ride with your money in their pocket !
Hope this helps to keep you from loss !
