Ever since my grandson could crawl, he has been covered in dog hair when he was at my house. It didn't matter that I had just vacuumed the floor, he was still covered. Yesterday I decided to do something about it. I went out and bought the Dyson DC14 Animal Vacuum. I was warned by one person that they thought it wasn't worth it, that it looked like it would fall apart and break, like it was cheaply made......Well, I got it home last night and put it together. It actually seems pretty sturdy, except maybe the carry handle. Then I vacuumed with my old vacuum-(7 years old). It LOOKED clean. Then, I vacuumed with the Dyson. I only did a small area in the dining room and a small area in the living room. The dirt I got was unbelievable, not just animal hair, but sand, dirt and stuff I had no clue was even in my rug. This was even after shampooing it last week! I dumped out the dirt and swept the same area again, I couldn't believe how much dirt there was the second time around. (The total area was about 9' x 12'.) I weighed each pile of dirt and was shocked when the total weight of both vacuumings was close to 1 lb. I even took pictures of the dirt and put the dirt in 2 plastic bags as proof. I would have never thought this possible of any vacuum if I had not seen it myself, that is why I took the pictures. I have owned many vacuums in the ast some of them being--Kirby, Electrolux, Hoover and Rainbow. I thought the Rainbow was good until I tried this one. I would most certainly recommend this vacuum. With an extended 5 year warranty for $99, you can't lose. You won't believe the suction on this thing. Today I was in the bathroom and while vacuuming I turned my head. The hose grapped the plastic bag full of trash and sucked up almost the whole thing. I know for a fact that the suction on my other vacuum would not have even touched the bag, let alone "swallowed" all the contents and not get clogged. The cord is extra long, no more unplugging for every other room. You will also be amazed when you see the hose and at how far it can stretch out.
The vacuum is easy to push. It feels much lighter than expected when pushing it. You don't like the loud sounds of a vacuum? This one is somewhat quieter than most, except if you try to pick up a frayed rug, or something like that. It will let you know, very loudly, that you have picked up something other that dirt.
I have 1 cat, a beagle and a chocolate lab......and 2 grandkids. I guess the reason I waited so long was because I don't have cable so I haven't watched commercials in a long time and I just really didn't know very much about this vacuum. Plus, I never knew how bad my other vac really didn't suck! If you know anyone who has a Dyson, ask them to try it. Or, go to the store and buy it. Most stores will take a return before 30 days if you do not like it. This is what I was told last night when I bought mine. There is no way I would return it! I can't wait to try it on my mattress and car. Believe me. this vac is worth it!
It really sucks...in a good way. I am still amazed everytime I vacuum!
