Dynamat

When ever building something, it's only as good as its foundation.  That's especially important for vehicles.  With a majority of vehicles on the road you can have the best chassis/body but at the end of the day it's still sheet metal.  If you're looking into getting more out of your ride by making its sound system perform better, keeping road noise out and helping the interior stay cool keep on reading.

Dynamat is a premium insulation material that helps stiffen and insulate panels in a vehicle.  What this does for you is translate panel distortion and road noise into quiet energy.  This product outperforms all the imitators on the market.  That's why some of the best car builders in the industry will stick this stuff all over the inside of their rides.  When you ride in a premium luxury vehicle, you realize how smooth and quiet it runs.  Sure it has quiet exhaust and a smooth suspension, but it's also all that sound insulation they pack everywhere to keep all the road noise out!  Now you can make practically any vehicle feel like a premium luxury vehicle when you use Dynamat.

Sound Advantage

Dynamat has a variety of applications.  It's main purpose is to help your sound system sound better.  Dynamat effectively helps your sound system when you apply it onto the mounting surface your speakers go on to.  Think about it, what's your home theater made out of?  It's usually made out of some sort of wood material that is pretty solid right?  That's because that material is solid and allows the speaker to operate at an efficient level while in your car it's flimsy sheet metal which has a high tendancy to resonate and distort which affects your speakers performance.  By applying Dynamat to where your speakers mount, you help give them a solid surface to help real clean up and raise the bass output of your speakers!

Want more bass?  Ya everyone that's into sound systems usually wants a little more bass.  But what about that sought after tight clean bass?  Ya you can put in a big system with a bunch of woofers and a few amplifiers and it will be loud inside and probably loud outside.  But what happens when you close that trunk?  Everything thing starts to shake and vibrate and you're rolling down the street in your "pimped out ride" sounds like loose change in your pocket.  Usually a lot of the vibration can be stopped at the license plate and the trunk lid.  By applying Dynmat strategically in key areas you can really clean up the bass.  More is always better though.  Apply it to all the sheet metal and you can effectively eliminate a lot of that rattling, that way when you roll down the road, all people hear is your sound system and not your car falling apart.  Dynamating a trunk can actually raise your SPL (Sound Pressure Level) by about 2-3 decibals.  That's almost like adding another amp!

Want a quieter ride?  Back to that whole luxury car thing I was talking about.  Using the Dynamat door kit can reduce the road noice levels by as much as 30%.  That means you don't have to turn up your stereo as loud at highway speeds and you can talk (not yell) to the person next to you.  For all you guys and gals running that nice custom or after-market exhaust Dynamat is a great product for reducing a lot of that exhaust drone that you get at highway speeds.  A quieter ride means you can enjoy more of the music that your sound system is putting out allowing you to hear more detail thus enhancing the quality of the experience your vehicle has to offer.

Heat Advantage

Using Dynmat product can also create a heat barrier between your feet and hot components such as, turbos, headers, catalytic converters and other exhaust components.  This stuff is designed to keep you as cool as your ride.

Applying It

Dynamat is a very easy material to work with.

  1. First you want to prep the surface, use something like rubbing alcohol to clean the surface you want to stick the Dynamat to, making sure there's no dirt or residue.
  2. Cut the Dynmat to shape using a razor blade (put cardboard underneath while cutting so you don't damage your counter or dull your blade on the ground).
  3. Start to stick and "work in" the Dynamat with some sort of roller.  The ball end of a screw driver workes great for the edges and contours of sheet metal.  (Heat up the material with a heat gun or hair dryer to make the rubber content easier to work in and conform to shape)
  4. Don't be afraid to layer pieces.  From a distance if you make a nice border the Dynamat will look like one big piece.
  5. When you stick it on try to keep all the logos right side up!  If you're going to put all this time and money into your ride make it look nice and do a quality job.
