I saw Duran Duran's opening show to promote their new album Red Carpet Massacre at the Chevrolet Theater in Wallingford, Conn. I'm a big fan of the band, but had mixed feelings after leaving the show. With ticket prices on eBay anywhere from $100-$400, I thought some people might want to know what they're getting into.

The Good: The band sounds great. Simon's voice is right where it should be and the expanded live band makes for a very melodic show. The new album, which is played in its entirety, is excellent. It was especially good to hear such soon-to-be hits as "Nite-Runner," "Red Carpet Massacre" and "Falling Down" in a live setting. Following the new album, the band dips into some of its older material for about an hour.

The Bad: New album; classic hits. What can possibly be wrong with this show? Simply put, the band didn't play many of its biggest hits. I have been to enough concerts to know that each audience member won't get his or her own ideal set list (I saw The Who without hearing "Magic Bus"). But to avoid most of one's core catalog is, dare I say, creative suicide. On their current tour, Duran Duran does not play "Rio," "Come Undone," "Is There Something I Should Know" and, perhaps worst of all, "Hungry Like the Wolf."

Again, not to say that it wasn't a good show, just that I left feeling less than satisfied. If you're considering spending big money on these tickets, know what you're getting into before dropping $400.
