I ran across a review here covering the Broadway series I believe and the review had a play list without some classic DD songs on it. I am happy to report songs like "Rio" and "Hungry Like The Wolf" are in the mix. The ticket prices for the shows across the country wil vary some, but $40-$120 covers most places. In my case it was $218.50 with all the Ticket Master fees for a pair of tickets 15 rows back from the stage.
The show was high energy and had a great openning act, Your Vegas. This band did a great job and sounded so good I bought thier CD after the show. Getting back to DD, their performance was solid. Simon and John looked like they were having a great time. Simon's voice is not the best in the business, but tonight it was very good. Even while and after getting his butt grabbed by a fan who got stage, he kept singing.
For fans who saw the previous tour, you find this show has less big special effects. Those big screens that split up and came back together in that tour are no where no where to be found on this one. I think this is the first tour in many years where the band had no multimedia videos. It was all concert lights and them. There was a three song digital set, where John and Simon jumped on keyboards and Nick Taylor used a digital drum set. It sort reminded me a Depech Mode concert I saw back in the 1980s. DD played a odd version iof "Last Chance on the Stairway" and a not so appealing version of the "Skin Trade". Personally, I find the band goes down a few notches when they do those kinds of songs. Without the funky bass guitar going and the riffs off the lead guitar, the band really starts to blend in with lesser groups. If you look at their biggest hits, they all feature great melodies, not just techno beat box type of songs.
The DD part of the concert was two hours long and featured many of the classics with a four songs off the new album. My wife who knows some about DD, but is not a real fan of the band, said she truly enjoyed the show. I would still say for the money they are asking, only to DD fans will feel really happy about what they get for the money they spent to attend. People who now very little about the band may find the concert is not worth money. I think it was a really good show, but last month I went to a Jason Mraz show in San Francisco and had as much fun or maybe more then the DD concert and it was $30 for a general admission ticket. That was one of the best bang for the buck shows I have hit a long time.
If you love DD, then the show will be good one for you.
