Dream'eo PVP Portable GPS & Media Player
We purchased this Personal Video Player and GPS basically for the GPS function for use in business and leisure travel and found it to work flawlessly within the USA. The unit takes about under 1 minute to setup when entering your vehicle especially if you leave the exterior antenna out on your roof. We used to keep the cord tucked in the drivers side visor and wrapped around the rear view mirror. So upon entering you just place your unit in the mounting bracket, enter the additional HOLUX CF Card Receiver on the top of the unit and plug it in, and attach the car lighter charger to the unit and to your car cigarette lighter plug and you're off. When you power it on and select GPS it loads within 15 seconds and gives you a disclaimer warning about driving safely while operating the GPS unit and you click ACCEPT and it brings you to the map. At this point you will probably see your most recent route so you can click on START ROUTE GUIDANCE, enter STATE, then CITY, or POSTAL CODE will get you there MUCH QUICKER. Otherwise you may have to scroll thru the list of cities which can take a while or enter the first few letters of the city name. This can be entered using the enclosed stylus pen or even with your fingers on the screen. We noticed sometimes the application can get a bit hung up or delayed in this mode but does respond if you keep tapping on the same selection on the screen. We feel this may be due to overloading the unit with other files like music, MPEGs, and other files. We chose to just use it mostly for the GPS function and it served its purpose many times over, saving time, miles, and gas!
The unit guides you with a female voice throughout your trip and also on screen. You can see the street or highway name where you are going to be turning as you drive along. The volume is not as loud as on other more expensive units but it can be heard if you don't have the music blasting. We also found that we could use the headphones and just put one plug into one ear while driving if there was too much noise in the car from family, radio, etc, and we heard the voice prompts fine. If you do pass your turn even though you are prompted, or you know the area and decide to take a different route than the one the unit selects for you, the unit will immediately begin to re-calculate itself and give you a new route based on your location. This usually happens within 15-30 seconds depending on the area and how much data is involved. If you happen to hit a traffic jam while on your selected route and decide you want to try a detour there is a DETOUR option in the menu you can click on and the unit will route a detour for you. All in all, this unit gives you what you pay for and doesn't have all the bells and whistles of more expensive units but WILL GET THE NAVIGATING JOB DONE!
We barely used the unit for media so we can't speak too much on this. However we did load some pictures on it from our computer which can be done easily by plugging into your PC via the USB cale which automatically brings the options to view files up. You can click and drag files from your folders on your PC Documents onto the unit easily, thereby being able to use it as a 2nd Hard Disk or extra backup storage. If your MPEGs are formatted correctly for size and pixels you can view them on this unit. You can view the photos you load onto it as a slideshow. You can also load your iTunes music onto this little unit as it does support MP3 and MP4, WAV and other files. You can listen thru the built in speaker or thru standard headphones.
