Drug use and abuse has long been a subject of great interest for parents, teachers, law enforcement agencies and other sectors of our society.  The problems associated with drug use , contrary to the data that is provided by agencies involved in combatting the problem, have increased over the years.  America has become a nation of drug users which include  social, prescription and illicit substances. 

American's use of alcohol, caffeine and nicotine has exacted terrific tolls on the health of our people.  The use of prescription drugs has been legitimized to the point that the use of such drugs is rampant amongst all age groups. America's healthcare providers such as doctors, nurses and pharmacists are all guilty.  Illicit or illegal drug use is at an all time high and such use has crowded our criminal justice system to the point that little else gets done.  America has truly become a "medicated" nation and the social costs of such use and abuse is staggering!

In the year 1975, I wrote a song entitled "There's a Pill for Everything" which was recorded in Nashville and produced by Troy Shondell.  Troy had a hit song in the 60's with "This Time."  The "pill" song was used by the Canadian National Film Board as the music for a film entitled "An Easy Pill to Swallow" which was distributed worldwide.  The film was about prescription drug abuse in North America.  Many  years have passed since that song and the film and the subject matter was well ahead of its time. 

 America is worse off today then it was then in spite of all the taxpayer dollars that have been spent on prevention and treatment.
