We have come accross some coin sellers listing coins on eBay as double dies.

Double die coins from the United States mint are caused by the hubing process. True double dies show a distinct rounded double images with some separation between the doubling.  Before buying any coin listed as a double die a reference to a coin guide or the American Numismatic Associated web site should be reviewed.

The coins that some coin sellers are listing are what is refered to as machine doubling and there is no value ot these coins. These coins are easy to spot since there are thousands in circualtion. There is a ridge of material that may run on top to the date or next to the date that makes the date look like it is doubled. It is refered to as a machine doubling and buyer should avoid these auctions.
