Dooney & Bourke started their business in 1975 and in 1981 branched out into the handbag business.
The first released handbags were the Tack Case and the Equestrain Bag, both made from BRIDLE LEATHER in 1981 and 1982!.
1981 Tack bags had the rectangle brass DB hanging fob, NO cloth label sewn inside only DB embossed inside!
1982 Tack bags had the round DB hanging fob, the GREEN cloth label sewn inside.
Both had inside pockets made of thin all leather.
In 1983 released their famous All-Weather Leather (AWL) handbag collection featuring the leather duck logo!
In 1983 the LARGE GREEN CLOTH LABEL was sewn inside on the thin all Leather Pockets!

There were NO cloth labels sewn inside these bags! The DB letters with the backwards D embossed on the front of the inside ALL LEATHER pocket!

In 1986 Dooney & Bourke changed their cloth label to the traditional Red White Blue with MADE IN THE USA below their name. However in the middle 1990’s Dooney & Bourke removed the MADE IN THE USA on SOME of their bags because they were assembled overseas.
MADE IN THE USA the serial number will start with A or B.
If the serial number starts with M is was assembled in MEXICO!
If the serial number starts with C is was assembled in COSTA RICA!

The Brass Duck Fobs are from 1988 and the SOLID Nickel Duck Fobs are from the middle 1990’s towards the later part of 1998 the Nickel Duck Fobs are Brass with a Nickel plated. The solid Nickel fobs have a darker silver look than the nickel over brass which is a lighter silver look.
There are TWO (2) Style Solid Brass Duck Fobs!
• One with All Weather Leather on the fob found on the AWL collection
• One with Norwalk Connecticut on the fob only found on the GLOVE Leather collection
