Authentic Designer Denim Jeans vs Counterfeit, Replica & Fake Jeans; specicially 7 For All Mankind, True Religion, Rock & Republic, Antik Denim and many more...
Counterfeiters have become so good at what they do anymore that the phrase buyer beware is NOT to be taken lightly anymore! I recently discovered lots and lots of counterfeit Designer jeans being sold at flea markets, by street vendors and yes even here on ebay!! Counterfeited Jeans include: True Religion, 7 for Al l Mankind, Rock & Republic, Citizens of Humanity, Antik Denim, Ed Hardy etc
Those selling counterfeit jeans makes it very frustrating for me and other legit Designer Jeans' sellers because the counterfeit jeans were being sold at like $25-$40!! Even at wholesale prices, I can't buy Authentic Designer Jeans for that low!! It's ridiculous! The counterfeit jeans look so good too, that it's sometimes hard to tell them apart from authentic jeans.
Buying Authentic Designer Jeans on Ebay can be safe if you follow these guidelines...
- Read Descriptions fully - look for misspellings in the designer's name or information & look for guarantees of authenticity not guarantees on a "NEW" product.. that is often what counterfeiters will say in order to look legit, but they promise new, not authentic!
- Pictures!! Make sure the pictures actually represent the item & that the item is on hand. (dropshipping is often from China where 99% of all counterfeit jeans come from... also Thailand)
-
You will often see many LEGIT sellers with the same pictures of jeans on mannequins or models originally published by the manufacturer or other department store sites. This does not denote counterfeit products, but rather many sellers post these pics strictly to show the jeans on an actual body in order to give the customer a better idea of how the jeans fit (I myself sometimes do this. I also finally bought a mannequin so when I find the time which is so hard these days, I will dress her up to take pics with the jeans on - all to give a better idea of how they fit on a body)
-
Also, make sure the seller also has 2 or more pics of the "actual on-hand" jeans themselves that belong to the seller!!
- Money Back Guarantee on Authenticity! Almost all the legit sellers I have seen and talked with, including myself offer a money back guarantee of authenticity on all jeans. We stand behind our product because we know it is authentic and customer satisfaction is a priority! Counterfeiters just want your money and don't care if you're happy or not!
Don't be fooled by counterfeit jeans! Here are specific things to look for!!!
- #1 and most important... CHECK SERIAL NUMBERS on each pair of Designer Jeans. For instance, what i realized when i started looking through some True Religion jeans being sold super cheap ($25) at a flea market, I saw that ALL the serial numbers were the same!! There were different styles of TRs but ALL with the same serial number... Authentic Designer Jeans have different serial numbers!! This is probably the easiest and best way to check if the jeans are legit!
- Also please note that some of the older styles of jeans did not all have serial numbers, so there are other differences to look for as i will mention below.
- 7 for all Mankind also stamps their irregulars with the word IRREGULAR and their overstocks with the letters QC
- CHECK TAGS: Are all the tags and labels attached? Do the tags look like they were printed out on a copy machine (i've seen those and they are horrible!) Interior labels are sewn in...
- CHECK STITCHING: Authentic Designer Jeans cost alot because they are made to perfection! Stitching is often done by hand, is accurate and straight.. You won't see crooked lines on the label with authentic jeans.. Also check the quality of the stitching.. It should NOT be unraveling and often times the stitching is double or even triple stitched. (ripped and hand damaged jeans are an exception)
GO JEAN SHOPPING at a major high end department store - Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Saks
A really great way to not fall for the fakes is to actually go to a store that carries the jeans you are looking to purchase and check them out... Touch them; feel the weight of the fabric and density of the stitching. Look over the labels; fonts used, where they are located etc and also check the attached tags. Try them on if possible because this is the BEST way to know how they will fit and what size to buy especially if you are looking to buy online at a discounted price - You smart shopper you! ;)
Well, I hope this will help get you started... I will be adding more to this guide including pictures and examples as soon as possible!!
Any questions or if you need assistance, don't hesitate to ask! JJ
