It has occurred to me that there are many reference materials that one can refer to when researching dog items of any sort that you could find on e-bay.  This guide will be a work in progress so please read it and if you know of a resource, let me know of it so it can be included. All of these items find their way into e-bay land at one time or another. Included are my personal impressions of the worth to a collector and the overall accuracy of the book.

(1)Dog Antiques and Collectibles, Patricia Robak, 1999, Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. * A very broad book in scope with wonderful ideas about what one can collect.  Not the most ideal source for making source or item identification. Some inaccuracies.(2)Flea Market Fidos, Barri Leiner and Marie Moss, 2002,Stewart, Tabori and Chang, * A smallish book with great enthusiasm in it for dog collecting outside of the e-bay world.Reminds me of the good old days of collecting with a small pocketbook.(3)The Doorstop Book, John C. & Nancy M. Smith, 2006, Schiffer Publishing Ltd,* Ambitious, extremely accurate large sourcebook for all doorstop collectors. Reprints of old manufacturers catalogues. (4) Cast Metal Bookends, Gerald P.Mcbride, 1997, Schiffer Publishing, Ltd. *Broad book for all collectors of bookends. Detailed explanation of manufacture and tips on spotting repros, evaluation of and the purchase of collectible bookends of all sorts metal. Has reprints of catalogues.(5) Animal Figures, Mike Schneider, 1990, Schiffer Publishing Ltd. * Broad book on the collection of all manner of animal figures. Very useful for ceramic and porcelain; less so for glass and metal.(6) Scottie Dog Collectibles. Vols. I, II, III: 1998, 2000, 2001; Davis/ Baugh, Schroeder Publishing Co. * An absolute must for collectors of this breed. Accurate, As thorough as it could be. The standard for anyone who would write  sourcebook(s) for any breed.(7)The Complete Dog Book - The Official Publication of the American Kennel Club, various editions, Howell Book House, inc.* A must for anyone looking to learn about, identify and date dog breeds. The only thing it lacks is visual representations of the evolution in the look of various breeds.(8)Boston Terrier Collectibles, Baker & Hiller,2003, Schiffer* This book I do not own but I would highly recommend merely because there is a bewilderingly variety of items out there. Old, new, and repro.(9)Bookend Revue, Seecof & Kuritsky, 1996,Schiffer* Useful book to be followed by an even more complete book by Kuritzky10)Collector's Encyclopaedia To Bookends, Kuritsky *Very broad book with the most complete catalogue of bookends of all sorts ever printed!(11)Doorstops, Identification and Values, Jean Bertoia, 1985 This little book is limited by it's size only. Established the original lowdown for serious collectors, making it a must read.(12) Figurative Cast Iron, Douglas Congdon-Martin, Schroeder.*Broad scope. Great pictures of cast iron collectibles. Some small inaccuracies.(13)The Penny Bank Book, Andy & Susan Moore, several editions, Schiffer*You will not need another book to collect old still banks and get help identifying the many repros.(14) Old Iron Still Banks, Whiting, Self Published, used editions available.*Original source book for still bank collectors and still amazing in the author's determination to provide an accurate guide.

Many of these reference materials contain reprints of various manufacturer's catalogues, including Hubley.Unfortunately the print is small, so a magnifying glass is in order. If you would prefer reprints contact John Sanderson, 10400 Westchester Drive. Westchester, Illinois 60154. Call 954 - 540 -6606 for prices. One can also search the web for various collector clubs.

These are my personal reference materials that I use for e-bay so far. I know that there are many other sources out there! Let me know of them and by and by they will find their way to this page. Remember that we must do this in a way that embraces e-bay rules.
