I have been researching radar detectors for 6 months now, The RMR (Rocky Mountain Radar) line of products seems to be the most controversial units on the market.

Every test that I have researched states that these units are absolutely useless, and they do not scramble or jam anything even related to speed detection equipment used by law enforcement. Most test's even show that just using their (RMR) products as a radar/laser detectors only without the alleged scrambling effect failed in comparison to less expensive readily available brands of other detectors.

After getting my first ever speeding ticket in 25 years, I was very impressed with RMR's claims of scrambling speed detection equipment legally. I almost bought one for each vehicle we own. Until I did the research, and read the reviews.

Upon further research I found that the "fine print" in their 1-year ticket rebate program is very restrictive also, it states that; "ticket must be less than 10 mph over the posted limit, and within one year of purchase according to the reciept from an "authorized dealer of RMR products" their website has a list of unauthorized re-sellers in which any RMR product purchased from an eBay  seller is not an authorized purchase. So please be careful. I am not trying to hurt any sellers on this site, but I almost fell for the hype myself. I just don't want to see anyone get less than they paid for. When is the last time you got a speeding ticket that wasn't at least 12 MPH over the limit? Do the police even bother people for doing 5-7 mph over the limit?

Upon further research of this product I have found a couple of lawsuits against RMR for false claims of being able to scramble or jam speed detection devices. There are also complaints filed with the "Better Business Bureau" against RMR from people totally dissatisfied with their RMR product. There is actually a guy who calls himself  "Radar Roy" that has nothing nice to say about RMR products and has local TV news stations video test's of the RMR scrambler not scrambling radar or laser. I took the results with modest interest because of this guys (Radar Roy) attitude and his website purely designed to bash RMR products, but then sell other products.

I am not trying to bash these products, I have not personally used or purchased any RMR products, I just see fit to share my countless hours of research  with fellow eBay users so they are not left in a bad position with law enforcement (read; tickets).

After all my research the detector that I am purchasing is a Valentine-1 with the newest updates known as version 1.8 with POP2 mode. Another couple of detectors which I would also choose if the Valentine-1 was not available are the Passport X-50, and the Bel line of detectors which is almost identical to the passport since they are owned by the same company. I guess it all comes down to the old saying "you get what you pay for! And the current outrageous cost of speeding tickets and increased insurance cost's easily justify buying the best detector that you can afford. So the $400.00 price tag for the Valentine-1 seems miniscule compared to a speeding ticket at or above the $200.00 mark, then take into consideration your increased insurance costs for the next 3-years. This one speeding ticket could end up costing you Thousands of dollars.

I urge you to do the research yourself, and decide which detector will work best for your situation. And buy the best detector that you can afford.

I do not endorse speeding or other illegal activities, But sometimes people accidentally exceed the speed limit and get fined
