There is an M35 "Snow" Camoflage helmet currently listed that shows the early tri-color National decal on the right side of the helmet carefully painted around in white. There is no decal on the left. German regulations in 1940 required the removal of the tri-color decal and later regulations called for the removal of all decals.
Helmets showing the removal of the tri-color decal on the right with the branch of service decal in place on the left are fairly frequently seen. Does it make sense that a German soldier would have completely reversed the requirements as outlined in regulations and continued to do so until the end of the war?
