Do you know Tanzania, Tanzania is located in the East of Africa, under Kenya and connect to the Indian Ocean. Tanzania is a big country, but the population is not much. In Tanzania, there are three popular places that most gemstone hunter like to go; Umba in Tanga, Songea and Tunduru in Ruvuma and Morogoro. But I will focus in only one places Umba because I have much an experience there.

Let's start,
I have been in Tanzania since year 2000 with my dad. My dad was established a gemstone company since 1995 with his partner(I will not explain about my company). The first time I was there, I feel like I am an adventurer, and that's true. My company is doing mining business in Umba, Tanga. Umba has many kinds of gemstone, but the most common are Fancy Sapphire (Blue, Yellow, Green, Purple, Reddish Yellow and some Color Change) and Garnet (Rhodolite, Spessartine and Tsavorite). To go in Umba is very arduous, it is just only 100 Km from Center of Tanga, but it took around 4-5 hours to be there. You have to past many villages. The thing that you should not forget in number one list is "water". You can't drink water inside that area even it already boil. Here in Umba for guest who want to take a rest you can have a room, but for the facilities don't even think about it (don't have much). For the electricity, we use a generater. In here you can buy a very cheap stone from the villager, but there are some problem. These people will starting with a very high price(you can shock with that price) and you should not buy the stone by select for some items, you should buy all, because the price will go up. These people is very simple, they just want money to buy some food and cloth. You know even the owner of the guest house was also a gemstone seller before.

If you want to go to Umba you should
1. Contact someone who know this area and you can Trust
2. Prepare you money and keep it As Safty As You Can (ASAC)
3. When you finished buy some stone, please come out from that area As Fast As Possible (ASAP), but if you know someone who doing mining business in that area, you can stay in that camp if you want.
4. Don't stay in Tanga for long, please rush to Dar es Salaam (ASAP)
5. Looking for some company that has a permit to export the gemstone (most gemstone company can do), and that company should have a trust credit.
6. Relax, go casino, go safari or do what ever you want.
