Do you own a screw drive garage door opener? Do you call for a service person to maintain it for you and pay a fortune? Did you know that you can do it yourself in a matter of minutes for a mere fraction of the cost you are usually charged?
To extend the life of a screw drive garage door opener, and keep it operating smoothly and quietly, it requires periodic lubrication. Most manufacturers recommend this to be done at least once a year or more often for heavier usage.
Lubricating the screw drive of the garage door opener is a very simple process that can be done in a few minutes. The most important part is having the correct lubricant and applying it correctly. This does not require excessive use of the lubricant as all you are doing is wasting the product and not achieving any better results.
The lubricant that we recommend to all of our customers is the lubriplate aero low temperature multi purpose grease. This particular grease has been designed especially for slow moving metal to metal parts and holds up well in both hot and cold temperatures, even below freezing point. A 1.75 oz tube of this grease is enough for two applications. With the garage door in the closed position, squeeze a small amount of the grease approximately 1 inch in length directly on the screw shaft at intervals of approximately 9 inches. Activate the garage door four to five times and have the garage door do the work of distributing it for you.
Again, this should be done about once a year or more often for heavy usage.
