Divination is the ancient mystical art whereby the diviner becomes a channel of higher consciousness.   Able to see time and events as if looking down on a road from the air, seeing what "bends" the road takes, the master of divination can tell if  prospecitve decisions relating to personal and business decisions are "open road" or "dead ends".

Among the many systems of divination the oldest surviving is the I-Ching pronounced Yee-Jing.  This "Oracle" so-called because it speaks to a person on the deepest level of being, from the deepest level of being.  One might look at it as a spiritual mirror able to reflect back aspects of oneself that without it, one might never see.

Imagine life without the physical mirrors that we use daily!
There would be so much we'd not know our appearance, was our hair combed properly, was there a spot on our face,
what about that thread on our shoulder?

In the same way the mirror of the Oracle enables us to see things about our emotional nature our thinking and motivations that we would never notice otherwise.

The proper use of the Oracle is for when one's own reasoning has reached it's limits.  When the options have been considered but clarity is still lacking.  That is when the Oracle's "higher perspective" can reveal much to a person's benefit.

It's use like medicine, is not intended to become an addiction, whereby one is reduced to asking if today is a good day to go outside.  Instead is it a most helpful and important guide when one is sincerely looking to do their best, make the best decision possible.

And because the Oracle is above all a channel of Wisdom, the advice it gives takes into account what is in the best interest of all concerned.  It is not a panderer to personal whims and desires.  The Oracle stands in bold contrast to those who will tell people simply what they want to hear.  A genuine diviner has committed themselves to being a channel for truth, and knows that sometimes the advice the Oracle gives will not be ego pleasing.  However they know that sometimes "strong medicine" is nessessary in order for a person to see attitudes and behaviors that if left unexamined will lead to great suffering.

The I-Ching or The book of Changes is considered one of the five great classics of ancient China and has been used with respect and reverence for countless generations.

No less a person than the great Phychiatrist Dr. Carl Jung was immensely impressed at the insights it gave in his questions.  It was his description of it's remarkable ability to see deeply into situations that lead the present author to begin his studies of it nineteen years ago.  And to begin, fifteen years ago offering the wisdom of the Oracle to those looking for clarity in difficult situations.

Dr. Jung asked the Oracle to describe itself.  It stated that it was vessel filled with nourishing food, but that the "handles" (understanding/availability ) of it had been lost and so it was not able to be shared with people the way it wished to be.

One of the most gratifying things in my study of the Oracle, and there have been many.  Has been to see it guide someone though a difficult situation.

One example:

I visited an aquaintance, a woman who was in the process of  moving.  I noticed a copy of the I-Ching on top of a stack of books taken from her shelves in preparation for packing.  I noted the copy and she replied that she'd had it for years but had never used it.  I replied that it was an excellent guide in decision making.

Immediately she burst out that she needed help with a decision.  She related that the whole plan to leave her large, beautiful upper west side apartment in New York City and move to California was a  source of great conflict for her.  She did not want to move but felt compelled to because of a violent, drug-dealing neighbor who had been harassing her for years with noise, threats and finally actual physical violence. 

What was she to do?   She had gone out to California and rented an apartment there, but she wasn't really happy.

Upon consulting the Oracle she was advised that returning to her apartment was the best thing for her.

She did this and for several months there was not problems with the neighbor.  But then the old troubles began as before and were getting worse with an attempt on the neighbor's part to break into her apartment.

Calling me in dispair that the situation had returned to it's former intolerable state she questioned the advice that the Oracle had given her through me.

One of the things that working with the Oracle  has shown me is that sometimes one's  trust in it is tested to the limits.

Here the Oracle had advised her to return and now things were worse than ever for her.  Surely if the Oracle were just a parlour game  it was not something to be entrusted with decisions  of  life-altering  magnitude.  This woman had trusted me enough to listen to the Oracle and base her decision to let go of her apartment in California on it.
Had I misread the Oracle's guidance?  After looking over it's response I was certain that it's advice had been clearly stated.

We arranged to meet for another consultation.  The Oracle said that she should go to a "man in authority", that he would hear her, understand her situation and help her resolve it.

She gave sigh of dispair, revealing that she had gone several times not only to the police but to court to have him evicted. Each time he had maneuvered, and manipulated the court system getting off scott-free.  It was useless to try again.

Assuring her that this time it would be different, that she would go before a judge who would listen, she reluctantly began legal proceedings again.

As before, the neighbor employed his usual evasion tactics, and motioned for dismissal.  But this time, the judge  had some hard questions for him.  Yet, the wiley neighbor managed to get a postponement.  Where it had worked so well before it now worked against him in a big way.

All through the years, other residents in the apartment building had been  harassed  in a similar way,  but almost always the threats had come when they were alone.

But once my friend was being grabbed and pushed up against a wall by the man in question,  as a friend, also a resident of the building was stepping out of the elevator on his way to visit her..  He yelled and the man reluctantly let go.  With sullen curses and threats he retreated into his apartment.

The visitor was willing to tesify about what he had seen and heard.  There was one problem: He was going to be in Europe for six months.  However, the postponement the abusive neighbor had won for himself  meant that this witness would return by the hearing date, and testify.

In the meantime a complete record of this man's criminal behaviour was obtained by my friend.  He had been charged with numerous assaults,  along with breaking and entering.  I saw the document, it was at least twenty pages thick!

Finally, the long-delayed hearing resumed.  The man who had been in Europe testified about the assault.   As the judge listened he became red-faced.  He told the man that he would not "get off" this time. He, who had for so long tortured my friend with impunity, would be out within ten days!   The rascal was able to get a delay of another week but again, this worked disasterously against him


The judge, looking at the twenty pages of  criminal complaints.  Decided to run a check on him.  It was discovered that he had warrants for his arrest that had been outstanding for years.  He was immediately arrested, his belongings removed permanently from the building to who knows where, as he was taken to jail!

My friend was overjoyed, at last she would be able to enjoy her home in peace.   Of course her gratitude to the Oracle for its guidance, in spite of her past experience, was great.

Words can't describe my sense of wonder at how the Oracle came through for her.  This was no "for entertaiment purposes only" situation.  Both of us risked, but the reality of how the situation worked out in real life, showed that this was a most skillful and trustworthy guide.

No wonder even the Emperor's and Empress's of China could trust it for the wise decisions that benifited the entire country and provide the stability that made it on of the great nations and cultures of the world.
