You've gathered a collection of prized possessions - maybe the same item in quantity, maybe a collection of related items, maybe a grouping of items that simply look good together. Now what?
Obviously quantity, type and the size of your collection does matter in how you display your collection. Let's for these purposes, assume you have five to eight collectibles to display. Depending on their size, consider:
a simple wall shelf that doesn't distract from the presentation;
a shadow box (for your small items like matchbox cars, lighters or pens);
a shelf on a hutch (great for childhood toys, glassware or crocks);
that space above your kitchen cabinets (consider grouping vintage items related only by age here!);
the top of your refrigerator (I display my glass oil lamps here);
a buffet or sideboard (a great place to display seasonal collectibles); and
the wall (baskets, toleware, signs, etc.).
Consider changing out pieces quarterly to refresh your display. You will find that visitors will seek out the new display when they arrive!
Consider adding touches of the season to your collection such as holiday ornaments, fall leaves, or greenery.
However you choose to display your collection of treasures, do it! Don't let them sit in a box somewhere where they are not visually enjoyed!
