I purchased this sweeper at Walmart for around $100.00 with sales tax. I was looking forward to getting it home and starting to use it, since we had just bought a new house and unfortunately our old Dirt Devil was retired before the move ended. Opening the box, I was very impressed with the ease of assembly and simplicity of the instructions on how to assemble it. The sweeper is heavy and appeared to be built to last a long time. I made a couple of passes around the front room of the new house and was amazed at what it seemed to pick up, you wouldnt realize you track as much dirt inside as you do. It wouldnt work on the small entry mat that we had because the sweeper kept picking up the corner of the mat. I figured this would be a great time to try out this nifty little gadget called the "Power Brush" that is one of the onboard tools. I un-hooked the hose and added the little extension tube and then pushed on the power brush, turned on the sweeper and was very disappointed when the power brush was not spinning. I took it off and held my hand over the tube, there was little to no suction power at all.
Here is why I am suggesting that you avoid purchasing this product:
Inside of the bagless canister at the very top there is a pre screen of some sort, this screen is extremely fine and collects dust much like the lint trap in your dryer. When the dust covers the screen, this unit loses over 3/4 of its suction power. The trap door at the bottom of the canister does not pop open when you push the release button, you have to grab on to the bottom of the canister and literally pull it open to dump the dirt from the canister. (when you do this, the dust and dirt goes all over your arm) In order to get the pre-screen unclogged, you have to sick your arm inside of the canister and peel it away. Once you do this you must twist the top of the canister to remove it, and there you will find a foam filter on top of the mentioned screen, then you will also find the paper element filter in there also. Once again, when you remove the foam filter to clean it, you will get dirty. I really think this is a major design flaw on behalf of Dirt Devil. This sweeper works great until the pre screen gets clogged. If you use carpet fresh at all on your floors, you dont even want to consider this product.
