Buying used parts on ebay can be fun and challenging. In many cases, the only place to find the parts you may need for an older bike is on ebay. Special challenges await those with bikes which are not "mainstream." Husqvarna, KTM, VOR, Bultaco and the list goes on. The reward is the excitement you feel when you find the part you have been searching for. The biggest challenge is finding a seller who is trustworthy. Their interpretation of the condition of a used part is often not what you the buyer would expect. Good to them means not so good to you in some cases. The simple answer for that is choosing sellers who offer refunds for items they sell. Sellers should stand behind what they sell and this is some "basic" insurance to protect the buyer.
Always check to see if the used part you are buying actually matches the motorcycle you want to put the part on. Some simple sites are out there to help you match parts. Don't always just take the Seller's word for it. One good resource is BikeBandit.com. You can match up parts numbers for different years and see what works and what is interchangeable.
I often sell used dirtbike parts on ebay and always offer a return policy on my sales. I am pretty familiar with most interchangeable years and parts, but no one source can always be correct, so do your homework. Make sure of what you are buying before you make that bid.
