This guide is to assist anyone looking to purchase a Butterfly Table Tennis Table. In this guide we will discuss the differences between each table Butterfly carries, and which table has the features you need. My name is Jacob Long and I am the Account Executive for BumperNets. I handle a large portion of our sales and also installations for our Butterfly tables. BumperNets is a retail store in Birmingham. We are unique because customers can play on the tables we have on the floor, and can also buy tables. BumperNets staffs employees who care about the sports. We staff two senior Olympic Gold Medalists, and the five time state champion in table tennis. If you have any questions when reading this guide, you can also call our store at 1-800-366-PONG.
Butterfly tables can be categorized into four different levels: The Home tables, Outdoor Tables, Institution Tables, and Tournament tables. The Tournament tables can also be used in Institutions, but in many cases would be overkill for what the institution needs. The Home tables consist of the Home Rollaway, Personal Rollaway, and the Playback Rollaway. The Outdoor tables Butterfly carries are the Outdoor Home Rollaway, and the Outdoor Playback Rollaway. The Institution tables are the Premium Rollaway, Competition 25 Rollaway, Space Saver 22 Rollaway, and the Nippon Rollaway. Finally, the Tournament tables are the Europa 25 sky and the Centrefold 25 Sky. All of the Butterfly tables are high quality tables which are manufactured in Germany. One of my favorite things about the tables is the engineering. None of the metal parts ever scrape together. All the folding tables fold up and down freely without friction. All of these tables are also extremely sturdy. In the following paragraphs I hope to help anyone looking for a Butterfly table to pick out which one is best for them.
The first line of Butterfly tables is the home line. These tables are by far the most popular, and the best selling tables from Butterfly. Each of these tables holds up and down, and also has wheels that allow it to be moved into storage, or moved to wherever it needs to be. We will start with the Home Rollaway. The Home Rollaway is one of my favorite tables that Butterfly makes. The surface of the table is 3/4" thick. When looking of a Table Tennis Table, the thickness of the top and the stability are by far the two most important features. Many low cost tables are made out of 1/2" thick pressed board, and can be easily warped or cracked. I recommend to always purchase a table with at least 3/4" thick surface. On the Home Rollaway two of the wheels pivot on the table. It is good that two wheels pivot, but it is better to have all four wheels pivot if you are trying to move the table by yourself. There are four locking levers on the Home Rollaway that automatically lock when the table is folded into the up position. This is especially nice if there are children in the household who do not need to be folding down the table. If you desire a Butterfly table, but don't want to break the bank, I recommend the Home Rollaway. The second table in the Butterfly Home Line is the Personal Rollaway. I Personally do not prefer the Personal Rollaway. All the features of the Personal Rollaway are the same as the Home Rollaway, except for two. First of all, the Personal Rollaway has a 1 1/2" steel rail that goes around the underside of the table for stability. This is a very good feature to add to the stability. The down side to the Personal Rollaway is the surface is only 5/8" thick. I would rather see a customer go down to the Home Rollaway, or go up to the Playback Rollaway. By far, my favorite table Butterfly carries is the Playback Rollaway. This table has every positive feature, and a great cost also. The Playback Rollaway's surface is 3/4" thick. All four wheels pivot for ease of moving. The steel rail on the underside is 1 1/2" thick to add to the rigidity. The legs are 1" square steel instead of the round steel legs the Home and Personal Rollaway tables have. The Playback Rollaway also has a feature not seen on the two earlier tables. It has 4 steel cross beams to add rigidity to the legs. If weight is applied to the Playback Rollaway's surface, the steel beams will hold the legs together helping prevent warping of the steel legs. For almost any home application, the Playback is the best choice that Butterfly makes.
If you do not have the space in your home for a Table Tennis table, the Outdoor line of tables are the best way to go. The frames are almost identical between the indoor and outdoor versions of the tables. The main difference between the indoor tables and the outdoor tables is the surface. The surface of the outdoor tables is made of a synthetic laminate that is resistant to water and is also UV resistant. Both the Outdoor Home Rollaway and the Outdoor Playback Rollaway have the 1 1/2" rail on the underside of the surface. The Outdoor Playback's surface is 1/4" synthetic laminate is thicker than the 3/16" laminate that comes on the Outdoor Home Rollaway. Only two wheels rotate on the Outdoor Home Rollaway, and all four wheels turn on the Outdoor Playback Rollaway. The main difference between these two tables is the crossbeams on the lags to add to the stability of the table.
The institution tables are heavy duty tables that are perfect for schools, churches, recreation centers, and other locations that need a table that can stand up to abuse. If you are looking for a table for a location such as these, PLEASE get a commercial table. These tables are made to take abuse. Buying an inexpensive table because it will be replaced soon anyway is not as cost effective or enjoyable as purchasing a table that will last for many years. The first table in the Institution line is the Premium Rollaway. This table's surface is 3/4" thick. This table's frame is different than the earlier tables because it is made of two independent halves. This makes it very easy to store, and very easy to move also. The Premium Rollaway has eight rubber wheels with four locking mechanisms. This table is VERY easy to move. I highly recommend this table if you need multiple tables that can be stacked together. The next table in the Institution line is the Match Rollaway. The Match Rollaway is exactly the same as the Premium Rollaway except for the surface. The Match Rollaway is 7/8" thick and is scratch resistant. If you hit the surface of the table, you can rub the scratch out with your finger. I really like the Match Rollaway as the nicest table that a family would need. I have sold many of these tables to families who want something that will stand up to abuse and last for years. This is also a great table for schools to use for P.E. or for churches. All around this is a great table. The Next table in the Institution line is the Competition 25 Rollaway. This table is a BEAST. This table is overkill for most applications, but serves its purpose well. This table is great for high abuse areas. The surface is a whopping 1" thick. In addition to the thick surface, the legs are 1 1/2" thick. This table is also portable. It has four rubber rolling casters with two locking mechanisms. This is a great table for Rehab centers, Group homes, High use churches, or clubs wanting a tournament 1" thickness table that is portable. The Spacesaver 22 Rollaway is the next table in the Institution line. The Space Saver 22 is 7/8" thick and has four rubber casters. This table is great for locations that need only one table and need it to store taking up minimal space. This table folds up to only 18" deep, and only 63 1/2" tall. Another great feature of this table is that it comes completely assembled. Finally, the Nippon Rollaway finishes off the Butterfly Institution tables. This table surface is 7/8" thick. The legs are a solid 2" thick wood, and the wheels are 5" rubber locking casters. This table in my opinion is a very expensive option when comparing to the Competition 25. However, this table is very good looking. This is a great option if taking into account asthetics.
The Butterfly Tournament tables are the top of the line offered by butterfly. The Europa is a stationary table, and the Centrefold 25 is a folding table made to store. Both of these tables have a 1" thick surface with Butterfly's anti skid technology. The bounce of these tables is their main concern. These tables have been used in many national and international tournaments, most notably, the U.S. Open. These tables are great for table tennis clubs and organizations that run serious tournaments.
