Every expectant parent is dreading .... THE DIRTY DIAPERS! And you should! It is one of the most unpleasant aspects of parenthood! But, let me tell you this... don't bother registering for or buying a Diaper Genie, or any other type of diaper pail! And here are the reasons why I say this:
#1. Sure it's great at the moment when you drop the gooey, wet, often stinky, diaper in and turn the handle to make it disappear, BUT,... don't fool yourself! It's actually still in there! And eventually, after not too many days, you're going to have to open the unit up and take everything out and empty it! Think again about what's in there....Eeeeewww!
#2. And it's gonna smell! Don't let the manual or the box fool you with their promise of odor control! Again, think about what's in that diaper! Now consider that, on average, a baby uses 6-8 diapers a day! I tried baking soda, air freshener, etc, and nothing helped the smell of urine. I finally gave up and put the whole unit at the curb!
#3. And that's where your baby's diapers should go! Out of your house and to the curb! Why in the world are we trying to keep dirty diapers in our homes, often in our baby's nursery? When I realized what I had really been doing with that Diaper Genie, I couldn't believe it!
Once I had my epiphany, we placed a designated garbage pail OUTSIDE with the other garbage pails, and every diaper went straight out of the house. Problem solved! There was no longer a dirty diaper smell in my house! And I could rest easy knowing that I wasn't storing multiplying bacteria wads at the foot of the changing table!
Forget the Diaper Genie, just buy a nice Rubbermaid curb can with a locking lid! Be well!
