Diaper Duty!
Not always an easy job, How many times has your baby need a diaper changing, but baby won't stay still to let you change him or her. Especially when it is a smelly diaper that needs to be changed. It can get a bit messy! when they won't hold still.
I know with my two, what helped was signing to my babies yes, sign language I would show my baby a new sign and say the word and then show the ASL (America sign language) sign for that word. You would be amazed as to how fast your baby will pick it up. It helps keep babies attention, and gives you the time to change baby before baby decides it's time to go. There are many new baby sign programs out there today. The one i like the best is baby signs. The reason I like them over the others is that they motified some of the signs so little fingers can easily pick it up. example the asl sign for dog is you snap your fingers and pat your leg (Not Many Babies Can Snap There Fingers) with baby signs you pant like a dog and slap your leg. My son is now 21 months and is more verbal now. I started teaching him signs from the time he was 3 months old. He had more then 20 signs he used, before he could verbalize what he wanted, he would sign for it.
Now you maybe asking how will that help me when my baby is wiggling and turning when I am trying to change his or her diaper? Babies love to learn, they love looking at and learning new things. I used diaper changing time to teach my son a new sign and go over signs he all ready knows.
Now as babies start using less signs and are more verbal I find that singing and teaching new songs to older babies during diaper changing time works well. Peek a boo is also a great hit during changing time in my house.
One more a great game to play during diaper changing time, get a small infant safe mirror. Give it to baby. sing, who is special, who is special, come and see, come and see, (Baby name) is special (Baby name) is special, look and see look and see. (sing it like where is thumbkin) one more with mirror, babies love to look at them selves ask baby where are your eyes, nose, mouth, & ears.
Would love to here what works for you and your baby?
