This is the first page of the paladin section of my Complete Character Set-Up Guide in ebay. As a good beginning, I start with the powerful People-Versus-Monster (PVM) hammerdin (Paladin which is Skilled with Blessed Hammers)
For the ease of your reading, I use summary format to describe all the details, (1) basic information, (2) stats distribution, (3) skill allocation, (4) gear requirements, (5) inventory, (6) hirelings and (7) Few Strategic Advices
(1) Basic Information
Hammerdin with appropriate gear can normally deliver 10 - 15K magic damage and only few of the monsters, undeads and demons in the game which have immune to magic damage will be a threat to him. And if a hammerdin is equipped with appropriate number of small charms with mods of faster hit recovery, life and resistances, he will be a godly hero as well as a good magic finding tool to you. That is why hammerdin is so welcomed by majority of the game players.
To be a good hammerdin, your paladin should have 75% faster block rate, extremely high defense (12000 & above), 75% - 90% resistance to all and good life stats point. In addition, the player should have a good knowledge and skill of controlling the hammerdin by computer keyboard and mouse at the same time.
(2) Stats Distribution
- Strength: Around 100 points on strengths is just good enough for the hammerdin to wear all necessary items.
- Dexterity: To achieve 75% faster block rate by level 99, a hammerdin must have 125 points on dexterity.
- Energy: None. With skill points on redemption, faster hit recovery charms and potions in the inventory, you don't need to invest any skill point here.
- Vitality: The remaining points of your stats should be put here to boost the hammerdin's life.
(3) Skills Allocation
- Blessed Hammer = 20 (before any skill point added by your gear)
- Concentration = 20 (Ditto)
- Blessed Aim = 20 (Ditto)
- Vigor = 20 (Ditto)
- Holy Shield = 18 or more (your own preference)
- Redemption = 1
- Charge = Remaining skill points (for hammerdin to move fast to or away from targets)
(4) Gears Requirements (Best Option)
- Helm - Harlequin Shako
- Amulet - +3 to paladin combat skill with all resistances
- Armor - Enigma runeword archon plate armor and Up'd ethereal guardian angel armor (socketed with zod rune) You may switch the armor in town when you have encountered a load of immune monsters in certain circumstances.
- Weapon - First weapon = Heart of the oak HOTO runeword flail (+40 to all resistance) and second weapon for switching = at least 3-6-2 call-to-arms CTA flail or crystal sword (battle order must be +6)
- Shield - First shield = Herald of Zakarum Shield (with HOTO) and second shield for switching = Lidless Grim shield (with CTA flail or crystal sword)
- Belt = Arachnid Sash Belt
- Gloves = Up'd magefist gloves or regular magefist gloves
- Boots = Up'd tearhaunch Greaves
- Ring 1 = Soj
- Ring 2 = Any good Faster Caster Rate Ring with Resistances to all
(4) Inventory
- Good Annihilus & paladin hellfire torch
- Load of faster hit recovery small charms with life and resistance to all
- 2 to 4 paladin combat skill charms with 12% faster hit recovery
(5) Hireling
- Nightmare Act 2 Defensive with holy freeze skill
- Equipped him with ethereal infinity runeword cryptic axe (with such conviction aura in this weapon, it helps your hammerdin kill even the magic immune beasts!)
- Equipped him with ethereal fortitude runeword armor (this boosts his damage by 300%)
- Equipped him with ethereal andariel visage helm (10% life stolen per hit) or ethereal Crown of Thieves (12% life stolen per hit); if possible, add a jewel with the mods of faster hit recovery plus resistances to all. I personally prefer Crown of thieves because it gives higher life stolen per hit, 50 to life and without lowering down the original fire resistances.
(6) A bit more for Strategies (However, it really depends on your own preference. Below is just few suggestions.)
- Don't be blocked by monsters into narrow places, corners, caves or tiny places
- Teleport around if you got stuck with loads of souls and immune creatures, that is, reposition your hammerdin when your magic hammers cannot hit them.
- Cast battle command, battle order, holy shield and again battle command (in this order) before you enter the battlefield
- Cast the hammers before the beasts gets close to you.
- use F1-F8 function to preset up your skills so that you can switch skills easily during your killing
With all the above and your own wise strategies, your paladin will be super-godly and his hireling will almost never die. You own in this beastie world!!
