The Dewalt DC011 Radio / Battery charger cost about $140 at Lowes and Home Depot, you can pick them up for an average price of about $100 plus $15-$20 shipping on Ebay at the time of this writing.
I love the Dewalt cordless drills and have used them for years. I've picked up a couple of other types of Dewalt cordless tools here and there and have been pleased with them also. I won't go into specifics here, this review is just for the DC011 Radio.
I got my Dewalt DC011 brand new from a Ebay reseller and I was a bit disapointed in the quality of this unit. It seems someone from Dewalt saw the Milwaukee job site radio and said, "hey, we got to build one of these", and then threw something together as fast as they could.
The DC011 radio is a very light unit with a plastic "roll cage" around it. I don't see much purpose for the "Dune Buggy" cage except to make it LOOK tough and make it more bulky and difficult to get into your truck. The volume control is also the on/off switch, this type of switch has a high failure rate and I don't think it would last three years in a work environment. The antenna is a rubber ducky flexable antenna, durable yes, but not very good at picking up distant stations. Unit has no remote control. Some idiot decided to put the mp3 input near the bottom of the unit in the back, so it will certainly get dirt in it over the years, it does have a rubber cap but anyone who has a cell phone knows how those come loose or get lost. And the worst thing is the speakers and amp are so wimpy, even if you could look over all the weaknesses you still have to listen to it. The unit has no bass response and crummy sound. There is no equalizer or even bass / treble controls.
For years I've carried around a old manavox radio/tape/cd unit that someone threw out because the cd player in it quit. It is beat up, but the radio works fine. I can leave it overnight at the job site and nobody will steel it because it is so ugly. It sounds great compared to my new Dewalt DC011. It won't charge batterys, but it have a little charger in my van.
To the folks at Dewalt, Stick to making tools, your DC011 radio doesn't even deserve to be the same color as my drill, let alone have the same nameplate.
