Ok, these are one of the most expensive headunits on the market and people don't seem to see the obvious signs that you are purchasing a stolen headunit. My headunit got stolen and I talked to other people who had their Avic-n1/n2/n3's stolen on forums. I'm feeling spiteful and realizing many of these auctions are for obviously stolen headunits. There are 2 obvious signs of a stolen avic. Despite the fact that its extremely immoral to buy stolen goods. It also leaves you with complicated legal issues. Here are some ways to avoid buying a stolen headunit.
Guess what is the most common thing that they leave in the car...
1. "Item does not include GPS antenna" Ok, if the headunit was actually removed, he would have taken out the GPS antenna. Theives don't have time to remove it because its wired to the outside of the car, and one can be purchased on ebay for under $60. If you are suspicious of the pioneer avic unit you are buying check the previous auctions they bid on. If they purchased the antenna and wiring harness before selling the good. It's probably (not always stolen). I mean, they bought the Avic unit with an antenna, why would they not have it at the time it was sold?
2. "Item is missing the faceplate." This one is obvious. The auction reads that the faceplate was "lost." If you have a nice headunit like an avic-n2/n3 you probably drive a lot and you wouldn't misplace your faceplate. It's possible that it was legitamtely lostbut not likely.
3. "Item is missing the discs." This one is a little more gray area but chances are that if someone did actually lose the discs at somepoint of their use of an avic headunit, they would have purchased a new one as the GPS is essentially nonexistent without the DVD discs.
4. The ebay seller recently bid on certain parts for the unit such as a harness, faceplate, antenna, wiring etc...
5. A 3 day auction and/or free expedited shipping. This could either be a fraudulent auction, but also quite likely someone trying to get rid of the goods asap.
6. Item includes plenty of expensive accessories like an xm reciever (of course without the XM antenna) but again no gps antenna. I can't emphasize how "no gps antenna" screams a stolen pioneer gps headunit system, enough.
7. The seller has zero feedback. Again this could either be a fraudulent auction or a stolen headunit.
Be good. Thanks for taking the time to read this.
