With respect to my long list of former dentists and their training, I have found a fiscally sound, and superior treatment provider. A small ad in a Utah Senior newspaper led me to another town, Orem, that has the only private dental college in Utah. All x-rays, cleaning, periodontal cleaning/debriding are FREE, in exchange for these excellent, closely supervised students to practice on a patient, grateful, living client (without regard to income levels.)
Attached to this service is the 1/2 price clinic. My husband's fillings were $60 and $70. I have just gotten up in the middle of the night to use my longed-for teeth whitening tray for the first time. That cost was $60, including, of course, the personalized mold.
Other tactics, when the above professional option may not be available, is to use a dentist whose office is in a poorer neighborhood than yours; or, go to a rural town with services that don't require such a high overhead.
The dental college has provided the most interested, detailed and caring service I have ever received. It doesn't hurt at all that the injections of anethesia are not painful! Your cost is time because the students are closely monitored and directed. Win-win!
