Directions: Supervise your dog as it chews the Dental Ring for approximately 30 minutes or until the outer coating has been chewed off. Take the Dental Ring away and dispose of it immediately. Use once a week or as often as it is necessary.
Attention: The Dental Ring is NOT TO BE CONSUMED. The Dental Ring is not a chew toy or dog treat. Ingredients may discolor upholstery and carpets. It is recommended that you give your dog a Dental Ring outside or in an area where remnants can easily be swept up.

The Importance of Brushing Dog's Teeth to Prevent Oral (Periodontal) Disease

The importance of clean teeth and gums for pets is well documented and is an increasing concern of pet owners. As mentioned earlier, 80% of dogs show signs of oral disease by age three. Oral disease develops in dogs simply because their teeth are not brushed and the plaque is not removed.

Plaque is a combination of food, saliva and bacteria. As the day progresses plaque accumulates on the dog's teeth. If this plaque is not removed it will build up and then undergo a process of mineralization. Once this occurs the plaque becomes tartar (or calculus). Dogs are prone to dental disease as a result of a build up of tartar. This tartar will begin to trap food leading to inflamed gums, tooth loss, bad breath and a whole host of other problems. If the tartar is not removed pockets of pus may also appear along the gum line and further separate the tooth from the gum, which allows more food and bacteria to accumulate. Without proper dental treatment, gingivitis and periodontal disease may occur. Bacteria can also enter the bloodstream through the inflamed gum tissue and travel to the heart valves, kidneys, and liver where even more serious damage can occur.

Prevention is the only way to decrease oral disease and allow our pets to keep all of their teeth for as long as possible. Routine professional care by your veterinarian must be followed by home dental care.

How are Dental Rings made?

Inside each Dental Ring is a dense fiber core circle. This fiber core is made of multiple layers of paper wound extremely tight to form a ring. This ring is then coated with course ground wheat, active tooth cleaning ingredients and peppermint to freshen breath.

How do I use a Dental Ring?

Simply give one to your dog and your dog will do the rest. Tests have shown that on average dogs will chew on a Dental Ring for about 30 minutes. This can range anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour depending on how aggressive your dog chews. Once your dog is finished '"brushing" it's teeth, the Dental Ring should basically be destroyed. Some small bits and pieces may come off of the Dental Ring so we recommend it for outdoor use or in a room where any small bits can easily be swept up.

How often should I give my dog a Dental Ring?

If your dog has not had a lot of dental care, we recommend that you give your dog a Dental Ring once a day for the first seven days. This will insure that your dog's teeth have had a thorough cleaning. After this initial cleaning we recommend once a week or as often as you feel it is necessary to clean their teeth. It is very important that dogs' teeth are brushed regularly to promote healthy teeth and gums.

Why are Dental Rings so effective?

Dental Rings are the right "Toothbrush" & the right "Toothpaste". It is very important what you use to brush your dog's teeth. The enamel on dogs teeth is found to be thinner than that of human teeth, varying in thickness from 0.1 mm to 1 mm. Even the bristles of a child's toothbrush are too hard for pets. Dental Rings are made of many layers of paper. As a dog begins to chew on a Dental Ring, it softens allowing the teeth to sink in between the layers. This is a very gentle process of cleaning teeth. As a dog continues to chew, the fiber paper layers begin to rub and brush their teeth. This continuous brushing action removes the plaque, tarter and stains from the teeth, polishing them smooth so that the plaque has a more difficult time attaching to or remaining on the teeth.

There are also a number of dentifrices (dental cleansers) used to aid in cleaning and polishing the dog's teeth. The ideal pet dentifrice contains (1) gentle abrasives such as, calcium carbonate and silicate and (2) active cleaning ingredients. Each Dental Ring is packed full of both types of dental cleaners. Mint Dental Rings

Sodium Silicate is located between each paper layer and its purpose is to polish teeth leaving them smooth.
Dicalcium Phosphate has a two fold purpose. First it acts as an abrasive to help further polish teeth and secondly the calcium strengthens the enamel on their teeth.
Sodium Perborate is a tooth whitener.
Peppermint Oil is added to help freshen breath.
Ground Wheat coating helps remove plaque and tartar build up. It is important to keep dogs chewing on the Dental Ring so that their teeth are constantly coming in contact with the dental cleaning ingredients.
