Wonder why you got a free one from Dell?
Could be because Dell takes a Lexmark Printer and puts their name on it. But this is where it gets good, Lexmark may sell the same identical printer with a Lexmark tag on it, but here is the kicker, A Lexmark Toner Cartridge will not work in it, only a Dell branded cartridge bought from Dell direct will work. They put a recognition chip in it, forcing consumers to have no choice of supplier to chose from. This does not bide well for the user of a Dell printer when it comes to being able to chose their supplier.
To make matters worse, Dell exaggerates its toner outputs. take a look, they base their page yields on a half sheet of paper, nobody prints with a half sheet of paper, we use 8.5 X 11!
My suggestion? Sell that free Dell printer on ebay or watch HP for a "get the dell out of there" promotion and trade it in for a better printer.
Don't get me wrong, Lexmark makes a fine product, but you can chose where you buy your Lexmark toner.
