This review is written from the perspective of a laptop technician. If you want to know what an industry professional thinks of this laptop then read on.

PRO's: The Dell C600 was the model that made Dell famous.  They are a light weight all in one laptop. They are very easy and cheap to upgrade. If it ever breaks parts are dirt cheap. If you spill a pop inside most laptops you might as well throw it away. On this particular model a motherboard is around $40 on eBay + 1-2 hours of labor to rebuild it, not bad. If you are hard on a laptop then this is the model for you. We recommend this model because they are a well rounded laptop that is very easy to upgrade as your needs change. Plus it's nice to know that no matter what you do it, it can be fixed.

Con's: There is a common flaw in this model. The mouse moving irratically. We see it in about 1 in 40 machines. It's not hard to fix, you just update the synaptics mouse driver and change the sample rate to 200 in the mouse settings. It seems to fix the problem according to our senior technician. Most people don't know how to fix it, so it's a good tip. We use to change out the mouse pads, but this seems to fix it.

A lot of C600's have a screen abrasion right in the middle of the LCD from the closing of the lid when it touches the space bar. If it's minor then it's just cosmetic. Sometimes it affects the screen quality, that's considered a B grade laptop. If it has the abrasion, but it doesn't affect the screen quality then it's an A grade laptop. That's the way it's supposed to be done anyway. A grade is considered excellent condition. Hopefully the person you buy from knows the difference.

Final Comments: I should point out that all models have something that wears out before everything else. This isn't just a Dell thing. Don't even get me started on Toshiba or Compaq laptops. H.P.'s aren't bad, I think Compaq's quality has improved since HP took over. Sony might as well stop making laptops, they are overpriced. Dell and IBM laptops are our favorite brands because they are easy to work on, very reliable, parts are reasonable, and accessories are easy to find. There is nothing worse then trying to track down parts for a rare or no name brand laptop. I see those no name laptops at Walmart and similar stores. It's nearly impossible to get parts for those laptops and they are outrageous if you find them, $150 for a battery, $750 for LCD. Compare that to a C600, $50 for a battery, and $100 for an LCD. The C600 comes highly recommend because it's so common and easy to work on.
