MOA: General Information/Definition:

In my years of shooting experience and learning from various military and law enforcement personnel at the range, I have heard the term MOA referenced as:

MOA (Minute of Angle or Minute of Arc) - a unit of angular measurement used in the firearms industry on scopes / firearms to define shooting accuracy

It is popular because 1 MOA almost equals one inch (1.0472 inches to be more precise) @ 100 yards.

MOA for Scopes:

A shooter can easily readjust a scope simply by measuring the distance in inches the bullet hole is from the desired impact point on the target. Adjusting the MOA a certain number of clicks in the opposite direction depending on the measurement between the bullet hole and the target (bullseye) will help dial-in the accuracy of the scope.

Most target scopes designed for long distances are adjustable in quarter (1/4) or eighth (1/8) MOA "clicks". One eighth MOA is equal to approximately an eighth of an inch at 100 yards or one inch at 800 yards.

MOA for Firearms:

Firearms can be "measured" in MOA as well. This simply means that under "ideal conditions", the firearm is capable of repeatedly producing a group of shots that fit into a tight circle or diametric area (usually within a one inch target area).

Please note: ideal conditions would be within an indoor range where the weather would not intervene with the projectile and with the use of a rifle vise or tripod.
