So much "Stuff"...so little space!  Here are some tips on how to maximize and create YOUR space in on campus housing.  You might call it a "dorm" - but if you do it right, it will become more than just a place to sleep, it will become YOUR room.  Read on for a few pointers of what to consider.

1.  Roommate(s).  If you have them, contact them early to work out the details...like what to bring and what goes together.  Nothing eats up more space than duplicates.  Two fridges?  C'mon...share!  Label the items if you have to.  Some creative roomies have even been known to share clothes to keep the space to a maximum.

2.  Look down.  Think about carpet...it is the first thing to go down on the floor, cuts down on noise, etc.  Bring it from home or buy it there?  Color?  Go back to #1...talk with your roommate in advance.

3.  Is it Legal?  Check with your college or university policies - are there size restrictions on things like the refrigerator (not just the cubic feet size, but also running amps...how much electricity it uses)?  There may be other restrictions, such as what materials may be used for fire safety.

4.  Size matters.  You can get great sound out of a mini stereo that takes up a lot less space...maybe even think about a docking system for your iPod or the XM/Sirius radio.  Small and great sound!  Search eBay for even more ideas!

5.  The Walls!  Lots of great posters on eBay...but think about how you will hang them up!  Most dorms have cinderblock walls and also frown a bit on nails.  They are also very dry (Think about a humidifier!), so tape needs to be good and strong!

6.  Security!  Don't forget...it is easier to keep what you have than to replace it!  Lock your doors - use common sense!  But think about some basic security for your stuff...use an engraver to put your name and id on items, or what about a small "fire safe" to keep valuables or special papers.  YOu can find these on eBay as well!

7.  How does it get there?  Should the things be sent right to your home away from home?  Check first to make sure someone will be there to accept packages if you have them sent to a hall or campus.  And think about the other end...how does the stuff get home at the end of the year?  You could be very resourceful and have an "end of the year" eBay auction yourself!

8.  Be creative!  No better time to express yourself than now!  Try it out...look for something that expresses YOU.

9.  Bored?  When you get bored...move the things around!  And if that fails, cruise eBay...no matter what "it" is that you are looking for, "IT" is on eBay!
