I have really come to love the murder mysteries by Deborah Crombie. They are contemporary British police procedurals written by an American woman who lives in Texas. She did live in Great Britain for several years with her first husband, so her knowledge gives the books an authentic British voice.
Her series features a crime-fighting duo, Scotland Yard superintendent Duncan Kincaid and his sergeant, Gemma James, who is also his love interest. Part of what I love about the series is how realistically the complications of a shared work and love life are treated as well as their evolving personal and professional relationships. Despite the main characters having a romantic relationship, these are not books filled with sex and romance, so if that is an important component of your mystery reading these wouldn't be the books for you. Wonderful characters, great plots. Very enjoyable reading.
I become frustrated when I am hooked on a series and can't figure out in what order the books were published. My goal with this guide is to briefly introduce you to the series, and then provide you with the titles in order. I hope you check them out.
