DeAngelo Williams - RB Memphis - DeAngelo Williams
DeAngelo Williams got his start in football in Little Rock, Arkansas, where he played at Wynn High School. After stellar performances on the field, Williams was recruited by top schools throughout the southeast, including Arkansas and Ole Miss. He ended up playing for the University of Memphis, where he accumulated unbelievable stats (34 games rushing 100 yards or more, and 7,500 plus yards altogether).
He scored three TDs and accumulated nearly 240 yards in a crucial game against the Akron Ohio Zips in 2005. Thanks to his strong NFL combines (4.4 seconds for the standard 40-yard dash, more than 10'9" in the broad jump), DeAngelo Williams was expected to place high in the 2006 NFL Draft. He did fare rather well, signing with the Carolina Panthers on April 29th, 2006.
Williams managed to overcome his relatively short (5'9") stature to impress the scouts. However, given the size of the competitors in the NFL, some worry that Williams may have to step it up to keep posting those impressive numbers. As a running back for the Memphis Tigers, he managed to best nearly all previous NCAA rushers, falling below only a handful of greats, such as Tony Dorsett, for the honors of top NCAA rusher ever.
Williams owes a lot to the stellar coaching of people like Donald Campell and his father, Odell Hill. His audacious personality has already earned him a wide fan base that's sure to delight the legion of NFL fans.
