Due to the enourmous amount of feedback I have received, I believe that the first guide I wrote, FAKE DAVID YURMAN JEWELRY UNBELIEVABLE, was a success. I appreciate the kind emails that I received from many potential bidders who hopefully avoided a bad sale. I also received several emails from people who unfortunately had already been taken, but because of the information posted through the Yurman buying guides, had taken their items to Yurman and are in the process of filing fraud claims to get their money back from bad sellers. Interestingly enough, I also received some not so kind (actually some were down-right rude and pretty classless) emails from sellers who were very angry for posting the information in the first place. My take on the whole thing is is that if you are not doing anything wrong, why the defensive posture? If you are doing the right thing, why wouldn't you want to help get rid of the bad apples that make your job harder? At any rate, the website that I had referred to in my first guide has been successfully shut down. Maybe it was the enourmous amount of emails that were sent directly to the Yurman headquarters about them and the illegal sales on ebay? who knows...it is nice to know that for now at least, they are gone. (Not to say of course that they will or haven't already assumed another name and are actively selling their bogus wares again.) Oh and by the way, just for the record, I am not a "miserable person that is out to discourage sales on ebay to hurt smallers sellers due to fear of items not being authentic". I am also not a ding-a-ling who is writing a bunch of lies. I also don't believe that ebay wishes to shut me down or kick me off for stating the facts. I am actually quite happy, quite smart (if I may say so myself!) and I love and support ebay. I also respect other's opinions and keep an open mind. I am very optimisitc and do believe that most people are good, genuine and honest. I don't have any desire to hurt anybody, just help with making shopping on ebay a little safer. With that said, I would like to address another issue that I have noticed time and time again. This is not illegal behavior, but I can't help but wonder why or how a potential buyer would not first find out what the retail value of something is before they go ahead and purchase an item. This should be across the board with any item, but I see it repeated A LOT with David Yurman items. There are some sellers that choose to keep the identity of their bidders private. I am not sure what the benefits of this are (?)( but I am sure some of these sellers will chastise me, call me a ding-a-ling and proceed to "educate" me on the reasoning behind it). I think that these sellers claim that it is to protect their buyers from other sellers who may contact them with offers of similar items for sale. I personally can't help but think though that it MAY be so that their bidders can't be contacted by others who want to warn them that they are actually paying OVER retail for a particular item. For instance, just this morning I was cruising around ebay and saw a 7 mm David Yurman buckle bracelet for a buy it now price of $750. When I went on the Neiman Marcus website it actually retails for $725. Hmmm.....made me a little curious. I then looked at some other items and sure enough I could also get a 4mm Yurman silver bangle for $299 BUT if I went to Neiman Marcus I could get a 5mm for $300...only a dollar more for a thicker bracelet? I decided to try this little experiment on a few other items...a 4 row crossover Yurman bracelet was $45 cheaper at Neiman Marcus. In all fairness, many of the items were the same price ( oval link bracelet on both sites $450) but some were a little cheaper, but to be honest, not a lot, maybe $10-$15, and these were starting prices, so who knows what a full 7 day auction might bring(?) Anyways, to add to my other advice on the matter of buying online, my tidbit is to ask your seller what the retail value of an item is OR better yet, go to the Yurman website, Saks or Neiman Marcus sites and get the scoop. I bet the lady (or man) in your life may be more impressed with the beautiful Neiman Marcus packaging and you will be happier with a little more cash in your pocket! ....oh, and by the way, these retail stores as well as Yurman retailers ALWAYS throw in a "free" Yurman cloth and white storage pouch. As always, Happy shopping!!!!
