Introduction

David Blaine is one of the most popular Magicians of the 21st Century, with an autograph that is highly collectible.  Here's some of my experiences collecting his signature.  If it wasn't for eBay, I wouldn't have much!

Just to let you know, Blaine was born on April 4, 1973, in Brooklyn, New York.  He exploded onto the Magic scene on May 19, 1996, when his first TV special, "David Blaine: Street Magic" aired.  He was only 24 at the time!

Since that special, he's evolved with other stunts and spectacles, like being buried alive underground for one week or being frozen in ice for 60 hours.

Just recently, in "Drowned Alive," he was submerged for one week in a giant fish bowl, then held his breath for the world record.  I personally watched that special, and I was impressed!

If you type "David Blaine" and search under "Buy" on eBay, you'll find a lot of collectible material, but only a small selection of autographs overall.  Listings are dominated by an unauthorized Blaine e-book, making it difficult to find anything unique.

One quick solution is to search "David Blaine" under "Buy", further sorted by "Highest Price First".  That will tell you if anything of real value is being offered.  You can also do more specific searches, such as:

• David Blaine autograph
• David Blaine autographed
• David Blaine signature
• David Blaine signed 

That will help you pick out auctions with autograph material, provided the seller lists these logical words in the title.  Since some sellers don't mention if an item is signed in the title, the only way to not miss any autographs, is to look at every David Blaine listing.  This technique yields the overlooked gems!

Before buying David Blaine autographs on eBay, check out his official web site.  He does sell some autographed material direct to the public.  As of May 18, 2006, he was selling autographed copies of:

• "Fearless" DVD for $40
• Mysterious Stranger paperback book for $40
• "Vertigo" poster for $100
• ""Buried Alive" poster for $100
• "Drowned Alive" poster for $100
• "Frozen in Time" poster for $100

These numbers should help you decide whether an eBay auction is a bargain.  Here's some of the items I've purchased on eBay.  The signed photo (below) of Blaine in a white shirt was purchased for $21.84 on February 10, 2005, from seller kentucky_storm from Louisville, Kentucky (eBay item #3871924868).  There were eight bids and 34 page views.

The signed playing card (below) was purchased for $46.53 on May 8, 2006, from seller mkdonny from the United Kingdom (eBay item #6608915493).  There were 7 bids and 85 page views.  The card features a printed quote on the back from Blaine, "You don't get into magic; magic gets into you".

The signed index card (below) was purchased for $2.22 on November 12, 2005, from seller wireless916 from California (eBay item #7560715037).  The size is 3" x 5".  There was only one bid and 12 page views.

The huge signature (below) on a white sheet of glossy photo paper was purchased for $3.99 on January 16, 2005, from seller stadiumsignatures of West Palm Beach, Florida (eBay item #3866339289).  It's the biggest Blaine autograph I've ever seen.

The signed book Mysterious Stranger in hardcover (below) was purchased for $9.99 on August 3, 2005, from seller dd8714 (eBay item #4565051360).

While doing some research on eBay, I discovered another copy of Mysterious Stranger sold for $0.99 with only one bid on November 16, 2005, from seller blackpupi8 to a private buyer (eBay item #6577778891).  You can learn alot by checking out the "Completed Listings" under more advanced eBay buy searches.
