Since I haven't been able to find a review of the Da Vinci Code movie, I thought I'd write a short guide and give my thoughts on it. I hope that people find this review and find it helpful.

First off, I have to say that I've read the book several times and thoroughly enjoyed it each time. The novel is fast paced and chock full of religious symbolism. If you haven't read the book, I highly recommend it, even if you've seen the movie.

The Da Vinci Code movie was directed by Ron Howard and the main character, Robert Langdon, is portrayed by Tom Hanks. The acting in this movie was good, but the movie just dragged. I usually like Ron Howard movies, by I think the movie would have been better served by a director like Michael Bay. The movie does an admirable job of being faithful to the book, and Ron Howard crammed a ton of information into the 2 hour plus movie. The problem is that the tempo of the movie was too slow. The movie could have used a little less explanation and a little more fast paced action.

I saw the movie in the theater and was surprised at how slow paced it felt. I think that there was a trade-off between providing enough of the religious symbolism and historical facts versus having a fast paced action movie. I wish Ron Howard had erred more on the side of action, but he kept to the facts.

I guess I would have to rate this movie at 3 stars (out of 5). It's true to the original novel and it's a good story, but the movie just seemed to drag. This DVD is worth buying and the bonus features make the DVD better than the theater movie, since they have more background information.

If you enjoyed reading the book, then you'll probably be disappointed in the movie. Nevertheless, the movie is still enjoyable.
