I had to write a guide/review on this item after purchasing one of these digital camcorders/mp3 players. First of all if you are looking for a more professional recorder then skip this item. If you are looking for an all around multi purpose recorder that is alot of fun then I would hightly recommend this camera.
I have seen some of the older models that came without a lens cover and a tripod attachment. The one I purchased has both of these. This particular model is best used outdoors in daylight. Even indoors with really good lighting the pictures still came out really dark. The first investment you would want to make is a memory card. The instruction manual recommended a 512 mb card, I personally use a 1gb card and it works perfectly. A 1gb sd card will record about 3 hours or so of video.
The included manual is pretty detailed, but if you are new to electronic gadgets then I highly suggest reading through the manual a couple of times. This 5 in 1 gadget does take some getting used to and learning all of the functions can be a little intimidating for the novice as well as the pro, but it is well worth taking your time and learning at your own pace all of its functions! I have tested all of its functions as a video recorder, mp3 player, webcam, voice recorder (which is the least useful of functions in my opinion) and digital camera.
The unit itself is pretty durable as I had dropped mine a couple times and other than a few cosmetic scuffs there was no other damage. DXG made a pretty good camera here. If you buy one that came without an instruction manual, you can easily attain one from the DXG website. If you are looking for a fairly inexpensive digital camcorder I would highly recommend this DXG 305v, just be sure to get one that is equipped with the lens cap and tripod attachment, a tripod makes things so much easier!
Just remember to take your time and have patience in learning about this new digital camcorder! It is well worth the money! And be sure to purchase rechargeable batteries and battery charger!!
