***** DSR Ratings are NOT Anonymous and Sellers can tell how a Buyer Rates Them *****
Very often, buyers will rate sellers with low star ratings even though the seller did everything professionally and conscientiously during the transaction. I have found that since buyers think their ratings are anonymous, they tend to post low star ratings:
1) simply because they can, or
2) because they have no real memory of the transaction (since they may post bulk feedbacks) or
3) because most of their buying experiences on ebay are not good and they choose to blame all sellers - including the great sellers, or
4) because they are unkind individuals.
For example - I have offered FREE SHIPPING for over a year, yet very often, buyers post Low Star Ratings for Shipping and Handling Charges. This is so strange - that the buyer has obviously received FREE SHIPPING but chooses to give the seller a 1 or 2 or 3 star rating. What does this mean? This means that the buyer purposely and thoughtfully chooses to do something nasty to the seller because they have the power to do so or they hate sellers in general.
Another common problem with this system is that, quite often, a buyer will purchase an item without bothering to read the seller's dimensions or measurements for the item. When he/she receives the item, he/she then posts completely unfair feedback saying something like "the item is smaller than expected" and gives the seller a very low Star Rating for Item As Described. Since the item was described in great detail, including clear, accurate dimensions, there is No Excuse for the buyer to purposely post unfair feedback and low star rating/s. But the dumb buyer stupidly neglected to read the measurements and decides to blame the seller, when he/she alone is responsible for his/her obvious idiotic carelessness or negligence. Unfortunately, we live in a world where many people refuse to take responsibility for their neglectful irresponsible acts and, instead, choose to blame others. These ignorant people are poor ebay partners as well as poor partners in any aspects of life.
This unfair, dangerous treatment happens all the time on ebay and the only way sellers can protect themselves from these rotten buyers is to read the feedbacks buyers post for sellers. When a buyer continuously posts feedbacks berating sellers or saying negative things (even if they are positive feedbacks) this illustrates the nasty nature of the buyer. Then we, as sellers, are able to block them from bidding on/buying our items so they do not do the same thing to us.
This is such a sad commentary on Human Nature and shows that ebay's DSR system is incredibly flawed and unbelievably unfair to sellers.
Perhaps the worst factors created by this terribly unfair system are:
Supposed secret (but not secret) DSR ratings create an uncomfortable, unfriendly environment where buyers choose to do nasty things and, therefore, sellers are abused by buyers because some buyers are obviously unkind and/or neglectful.
Because of this poor rating system - more and more buyers are being blocked by sellers so the buyers cannot buy or bid.
The end result is that less and less business will be generated on ebay.
It appears that ebay will not be changing this extremely unfair, severely flawed DSR rating system - so, as a result - all ebay members suffer and business on ebay declines drastically - which we are all seeing.
