Now this guide isn't being made just to bash one of the systems.  Each system has its own positives and negatives and I'm making this to help you decide which is best for you.

As you can tell the DS is more compact, has alonger lasting battery, and has a one of kind touch screen.  On the other hand PSP weighs less and has the larger screen.

Now on to the gameplay for each system.

DS:  I have to start by throwing a hand up for Nintendo since they are the most experienced and familiar company of handheld games.  Remember, the DS can play both DS games and GBA games.  In fact, when you compare the two systems, the DS looks like a GBA with wings.  The DS cannot even be talked about without mentioning it's innovated touch screen.  This has turned gameplay into a whole new world.  Being able to draw pictures, write messages to other players, and doing many other thing with a touch of the stylus are all a huge plus.  Nintendo while inovated with the touch screen, still follow the footsteps of their prior system the GBA.

PSP:  The gameplay of the PSP is alot like the gameplay for the PS2 with graphics slightly lacking.  It is handy however to be able to play your favorite Playstion games, with familiar controls, when and where ever you want.  It's if they took a PS2 controller and merged it with the screen, the chips, the cards, and all that fancy stuff.  It is fun to play it and features a sleeker design.  In my opinion the PSP's gameplay is great but only one of the PSP's wide variety of features.

On to the "Other Features" of the two systems.

DS:  The DS' best other feature is most likely a little thing known as "Pictochat".  Pictochat is a wireless communication system where players can write, draw or type messages or pictures to each other in chat rooms holding up to 16 people each.  While the DS' wireless range isn't to far it is a great feature.  The DS also features multiplayer gameplay using this wireless "Hi-Fi" connection.  You can face opponents in many different games such as Madden or any of the Mario games.  Away from the DS' multiplayer world is it's alarm.  It's nothing to special but is able to wake me up in the morning with its loud volume.  It also has a clock, calender, your pick of color back drop, and a variety of 8 languages for you to use.

PSP:  As you heard advertised on TV several times I'm sure,  PSP has created it's own breed of DVD's just for the PSP system.  This is a huge bonus considering a normal portable DVD player sells easily for well over $100.  But you don't have to buy a PSP UMD to watch video on your PSP, you can put your own video on to it using a fairly simple but slightly complicated procidure. Another huge money-saver the PSP offers is its ability to play several types of music files making it also and MP3 player.  So buying a PSP is really like buying a portable gaming system, a portable DVD player, and MP3 player all for a generally low price.  Pretty good deal it has going on.  The PSP, in my opinion, is a complicated mixture of several different items in a stlylish, sleek body.

THE OVERVIEW

As you've seen the DS does have advantage of experince in the gaming field and probably is the better GAMING system.  However the PSP is much, much more than a gaming system, playing video and music.  So if you're looking to have tons of hours of fun gaming with your friends, or getting something for the young or preteen child in your life, and don't expect much more, go for the DS.  If you'll use the options of video playing and it's music playing feature, or your looking for a gift for a technology-able teen, you might want to go for PSP.  But don't let this final paragraph make your decision.  Look over this whole guide and make the decision for yourself.
