I have learned something buying and selling on Ebay, that I think you should know, too.  There are many policies and rules on Ebay that you may not be aware of, but you need to be.  I've been selling on Ebay for 6 years now, and have maintained my 100% feedback, but not without some bumps and bruises along the way.  It is very important to read through ALL of the sellers policies BEFORE you begin selling.  And then you should review them frequently, to find the updates, and to remind yourself of what you can and cannot do.  I have had 3 warnings over the years, each time totally unexpected.

The first time I was warned was when I had a Kate Spade purse for sale.  I had purchased it used, and really didn't know much about the product, except that it could bring in about $100.00.  So, I listed it without checking the policies, not realizing there was anything wrong with selling it.  First of all, Ebay has an agreement with Kate Spade, and you need to be affiliated with Kate Spade to sell their products.  Secondly, it was a counterfeit, which I also did not know.  I was referred to a website describing how to tell the difference.  I was pretty frustrated.  First, because I didn't know about the policies, and second because my auction was up to $70.00 when it was pulled:).

The second time I was warned was when I put a Teacher Edition book, up for sale.  Again, I did not know that sellers cannot sell Teacher's Editions on Ebay.  The reason is, because a student could purchase one, and then cheat in class.  I was selling it because I homeschool my children, and need the Teacher's Editions for teaching school.  Now, I know.

Then the last time I was warned, was when I was selling Custom Designed T shirts, and had listed on my auction, a notice, referring people to email me if they wanted to order something in a different size, or color, at a different price.  I only meant that I would give them the price quote and if they were interested, I would list it as an auction.  But I found out, that is not allowed on Ebay.  Because SOME people will do those transactions outside of Ebay, and then Ebay will lose their percentage, and that is not good for business (or ethical).  Even though, that was not my intention, Ebay would not know who would or wouldn't be honest, so they have made the policy across the board.  Following the policies set forth by Ebay are for our benefit and protection, even though it doesn't always feel like it.  I don't ever want to get a warning again.  I surely don't want to be kicked out, when my business is growing.  I don't know how many warnings you can receive before serious action is taken.  I think I better go read the policy.  AND STAY OUT OF TROUBLE!!
