Why would you want to make a photo bookmark?
What can you possibly use a photo bookmark for?
You may be pleasantly surprised at the many uses of a photo bookmark that you can create for only 7 cents each.
Certainly a bookmark is a great way to keep your place in what you are reading, studying, or working on. It could be a book, a magazine, or work report. A bookmark saves wear and tear on what you are reading. No bent or torn corners or other damaging marks. A bookmark can contain text that can inspire, motivate, and even encourage. Best of all a bookmark can be personalized just the way you want it. A photo bookmark can be given as a personalized gift from you or a special personalized gift from a group of people. It can even help the viewer to keep focused on a special person, place, or life goal.
I have been creating special photo bookmarks for my clients for almost a decade and the uses continue to grow and grow. Photos make a bookmark very special. A photograph is worth ten thousand words. Before photographs, Napoleon stated a good sketch is worth more than a long speech. A photo or a group of photos can convey much more than just words. Pictures can convey feelings, emotions, and the many special things that cannot be described in words. Creating photo bookmarks seem to grow on a person as one continues to find additional uses for them.
How to Create a Photo Bookmark
There are two basic size photo bookmarks that I create for my clients and my use. My standard size is 2 inches wide by 6 inches tall and my larger size is 2.5 inches wide by 7 inches tall. You do need to have some type of photo editing software to create a photo for making a print at your favorite photo lab. Once the photo bookmark has been completed I copy and paste a duplicate right next to the original to create either a 4 inch by 6 inch print or 5 inch by 7 inch print. Then I upload it to my favorite photo lab for printing. I have the print made with a matte finish that works well for avoiding fingerprints. If you would like, you can have the print laminated, however, I have found using a good quality print paper, such as Kodak Gold or E-Surface works fine since it is thick enough to be sturdy by itself. I then cut the print vertically in two to produce two photo bookmarks. I use a photo paper cutter, but a pair of sharp scissors will work fine too.
Is it difficult to see the smaller photos?
The size of a photo is relative to the distance the photo is viewed at. If one views a 4 inch by 5 inch photo in an album on the lap or table at about 30 inches, the photo will appear to be about the same size as a 2 inch by 2.5 inch photo in a photo bookmark viewed at from 12 to 18 inches at reading distance. Likewise an 8 inch by 10 inch photo viewed on a coffee table or desk appears to be about the same size of a 2 inch by 2.5 inch photo in a photo bookmark viewed at about 15 inches. Additionally, when one views a photo on a photo bookmark there are less background distractions.
When I crop a photo for a photo bookmark I usually crop to include just the head and upper shoulders. Kodak and others recommend getting close to the subject and this achieves that goal.
Photo Bookmark Ideas for Your Consideration
The biggest photo bookmark project I have done was ordered by a Bride. The Bride had me create 84 photo bookmarks that each contained 3 photos for a total of 252 photos. The photos were of her engagement photos, her wedding day photos, and her honeymoon photos. The 84 photo bookmarks were printed on 42 4 inch by 6 inches matte finished prints that I vertically cut to make the 84 photo bookmarks. The Bride had a small gold foil gift box that she put them in and carried them with her in her purse. She simply loved them and showed them to others at every opportunity. These 84 photo bookmarks with 252 photos cost $8.82 including tax. The Bride also had a set made for the Groom, his parents, and her parents for a total cost of $35.28 including tax. Yes, the wedding couple did have a large expensive leather album that weighed over 20 pounds, but that stayed home for it was the photo bookmarks that everyone saw. Additionally, she had a special thank you photo bookmark that they sent with their thank you notes. Now she has been make up photo bookmarks of her two children that are easily mailed to her friends and relatives.
Another type of photo bookmark that is frequently requested is what I call the Sweetheart Photo Bookmark. These are ordered by both Gals and Guys of any age. The most popular request is a photo of the Guy or Gal by themselves, then a photo of the Guy and Gal together, and a special brief message title using the names of the Guy and Gal. Here is the strategy behind this: The Gal wants the Guy to keep her picture close to him to see and focus on and she chooses a brief message to inspire love me special from the Guy. One of the reasons to include a photo of both of them is that anyone else who see the photo bookmark it fully implies the Guy is taken and not available. And vice versa for the photo bookmark the Guy has made up. I even had requests on an ongoing basis from Guys and Gals for special photo bookmarks that may show up in the others brown bag lunch for the day, etc. The cost is certainly affordable.
Parents, both Moms and Dads, like to have me create special photo bookmarks to inspire their sons and daughters to Be Their Best. Some use a celebrity photos with a message that conveys the inspiration to work hard in a certain area. Parents say a lot about how much they love their children and how proud they are of them through the use of photo bookmarks and their Special Hall of Fame Family Photo Wall.
Another use of photo bookmarks is for memorial service remembrance of one that has passed away. While it is nice to have a special memorial remembrance booklet, a personalized remembrance photo bookmark adds a special touch that words cannot describe. The photo bookmark can display one, two, or three photos and include a special message.
